Cool Went to Eye Doctor today

Finally i broke down and made it to the eye doctor today. This was my very first visit with him and i was really impressed. He put some drops in my eyes and said i had some of the dryest eyes he had ever seen and severe inflamation. We talked about the Plaquenil and all the events that led up to my eye condition and he told me that he truly did not think it was the Medication, but from the Lupus itself. He also said that if he had Lupus he would not be a bit afraid to use Plaquenil and that would be his choice of medication. He said that in all of his years of Practice. that he had only seen one patient that had problems with the Plaquenil.. He gave me steroid drops and tears. If this clears it all up i will go back in two weeks and he will prescribe Restasis.

If it doesn't help he will do a procedure to plug my tear ducts to conserve my tears. He told me he couldn't really control the problems with my eyes until i got the Lupus under control. So in the morning i will start back on the Plaquenil. I'm determined to use this medication. He told me not to worry, if i had anymore problems to call anytime and he would make sure that my eyes are comfortable until we can beat it. So there it is. I must start putting warm compresses on my eyes so i hope everyone has a great night. Hugs to all.

    Craftkeeper,
Dry eyes are a symptom of Sjogren's. Have you been tested for that?
Did your doc say anything about Restasis? It is usually the step before plugs. It's working for me, but it's not cheap. The trick is to use each container more than once, as the drug company tells you to do. I make each container last for two days, rather than one dose.
    Good luck!
    Hugs,
    Marla

I have to say i am blessed to have good Doctors that are close by. I guess my eye Dr. good see that i was fairly distrought by all of this at once because he said" dont worry, were not going to let you go through this alone".

Hey Marla, I'm not really sure what i've had checked.LOL. i know that sounds bad,but honestly the tests are so new and confusing to me. I have had blood work for Sjogrens i think. I will have to dig up my printout. I must really get all of my paperwork organized. Anyway i read that there is some sort of test with a strip of something that they put in your eyes's? Is this what you had?
My doctor did say that when i come back in 2 weeks if the inflamation is cleared that he will try the Restasis . Thank God i have a good insurance. I usually have a five dollar co-pay for all meds. But i did get my first restart dose of Plaquenil in me.yaah. Keeping fingers crossed on it.

I was going to ask about Sjogren's too. My opthamalogist just tested me for it. He used some sort of special green dye eye drops that show a specific pattern common to Sjogren's. He also used another yellow dye drop and did some special images of my eyes.
http://www.sjogrens.org/home/about-s...rome/diagnosis Here's a list of the tests they would normal do from the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation.
As long as this body works, I am going to enjoy life to the fullest for each second of every moment that I can.

    Hello craftkeeper,

Good news mate from your specialist and it sounds like you've got a good one there. Like marla said and sandy i'd double check your paper work for sjogren's because i also have it and they test my eyes everytime i go to the hospital, when they do your eyes with those strips they know how bad your eyes are my came in at 6/10 but she did say when we worry is when it's 2 or 3 out of 10. I am pleased he's helped your eyes in the meantime.
How you feeling with the plaquenil at the moment, the side affects seem to be subsiding with me and i am pleased i've stopped on it and it is the lupus which causes the eye trouble, i had a white spot on my tear duct and it was so annoying it's gone now and the plaquenil as moved all the sores from up my nose.

Hey all. Nope i've not had the strip thing done yet but i assume it was because of the inflammation in my eyes.. I go back in nine days after i finish the steroid drops and he said we would go from there.. They did put a bunch of dye drops in my eye.. yellow and he did a bunch of other things. I checked the blood work that i had done at the rheumy but the one for Sjogens came back okay.. could it still be that with a normal bloodwork? I think i will go by and pick up my dx from the eye doctor and find out what he put on paper. My Rheumy had things down on paper that he didn't tell me about so you knows.

Terri i'm so glad the Plaquenil seems to be working for you. I am on day five and other then sick tummy no bad things so far. I feel much better about it this time round after talking to the eye doctor and knowing he's on standby.LOL

    Hi craftkeeper,

Well i hope after 9 days mate something can be sorted to help you and i am pleased that your reading for sjogren's came back ok as that disease is a right nightmare to live with.
I often get the stomach cramps in my stomach and it's been ok so far and i hope it goes the same for you, plaquenil is a good drug and i hope it helps you in more ways than one plus it's good to have an eye doctor on standby (JAMMY) LOL
