    Default update on dr appt

Great news! I sucked it up and went to my gp today. I told him about my concerns of treating things before I went to the specialist, and he totally shared my concern. He gave me tramadol to help with pain now for when I have really bad data and wanted me to start treatment for the fibro bc he believes my high bp is from dealing with all this pain on a constant basis. He gave me Savella. Its strictly a fibro med, not an antidepressant. Im planning on starting it friday, just in case it has weird side effects, so my husband can be home to help with our son. Im really excited about it bc I've actually never had my fibro treated. I've only ever take prednisone and plaquinil, so new treatment options are very exciting. He also said it shouldn't mess with my upcoming appt, and it is started and stopped pretty quickly, so if the new dr wants something else, we can discontinue it pretty quickly. He also recommended some over-the-counter pain patches that are relatively inexpensive and seem to be helping relieve a little pain. They aren't terribly strong, but I can put them all over, so its dulling the pain a little. Hopefully all of this together will help me to function a little more on a daily basis. Okay. Off to try to sleep.

    Have a good night/day!
    God bless,
    Amanda

    hi amanda,

so proud of you for taking the "leadership" role in your treatment. you let the dr. know that you were in control, but you let him know what you felt was the best plan....thankfully, he agreed with you, and now maybe you can get some relief.

i have been dealint with fibro for over 15 years now, and the non-narcatotic pain patches work really well for me. I hope they help you. I have a prescription for mine, (did not know you could buy over the counter). the name of mine are Lidoderm, and they are lidocain patches. they are large patches, so sometimes, i will cut them down to fit over the areas that are hurting. I don't know if these are any stronger than the ones that you are using.

I have never heard of the medication Savella, please keep us posted on how it is working for you.

it is saturday, i hope your new medication is easy on your system...have a great day.

Im only on day 3 of a 2-week titration pack, so im not really feeling any different yet. Today I take only 2 mg, and the end dose is 100 mg a day, so it may be a while still before I feel any results, but im just happy to get to try something new. Thanks for the kind words.

I am so happy to hear that you've been proactive in your care and that your doctors are now starting to respond to you appropriately. I do hope that these new meds work for you. Please keep us posted.
I, too, have Lupus and Fibro and dealing with the pain from both can be overwhelming! I wish you the very best
