Cool Back from a lovely trip to San Francisco

    Hi to all,
We had a great trip to San Francisco this weekend. The weather here in Northern California was perfect. The air conditioner in the car even kicked in today!
We drove up yesterday (Friday) and I got my Botox shot in the vocal cords in the morning. He may have hit "the sweet spot". because so far, I haven't lost my voice or gotten breathy, as often happens for about a week after the shot.
We had lunch in Japantown (Soba noodles and broth is great on a sore throat) and then drove to the other hospital for Jeff's appointment. He had his six week check up from his surgery and got the stitches taken out.
Then, we played. We visited the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, which was the home of the hippie and flower-power movement in the '60s. The shops on Haight St. are a hoot - tie dye everywhere!
We ate dinner at our favorite Italian place and then curled up for a romantic evening at our favorite SF motel.
On the way home this morning, we stopped at the Ikea store, since we had never been in one. It's a giant Swedish warehouse store. We looked around, bought some lingonberry preserves, and ate Swedish meatballs for lunch. We also made a stop at our favorite bookstore in Gilroy (about halfway home) and I stocked up on reading material.
It's good to be home. Jeff has jumped right back into his homework and studying.
I'll be seeing my rheumy this Thursday - stay tuned - it should be an interesting report.
    Hugs to all,
    Marla

Glad to hear that you and Jeff had a good visit, and that all went well with both of your appointments. Last time I was in the Haight-Ashbury District it was like stepping back in time. There were these two guys in bell-bottoms outside of one of the shops doing something that looked like cooking a pair of pants in boiling water. They were taking Levi's and fading them to almost white so they could then make tie dyed bluejeans out of them. Walking past some of the shops you could hear music playing-Jefferson Airplane, The Doors...

I do miss the bay area. It's good to have you back!

So glad it was a good trip, like Rob, I miss SF. It was great living there; only made it down to monteray (sp) once.

Glad also for you that he hit the sweetspot.

Happy to hear that you had a successful trip to SF, Marla, and you were able to...ahem....play.

I'll be making the trek on Weds. morning and staying through Thursday afternoon. I'll be having the two year follow-up at the UCSF SICCA Study and the next day a visit with my rheumy and motility specialist.

Some warm sourdough bread is definitely on the menu Weds night with some Ghiradelli chocolate (Superman won't be with me so I don't have to have a proper meal-it can be a PMS delight).

I understand the my half-sister, who I met when I was 22 and she 17, lives in SF. I thought about calling her to see if she'd like to have coffee, but with a fat lip from the biopsy, don't know how talkative I'm going to be. Plus, I'll be getting up at 4:00 a.m. to make the drive (normally 3 hours, but I'm going to hit rush hour traffic) so I may be pretty tired.

I wish you good luck with your rheumy appt this next week. Enjoy all of oyur new reading material.

    Hey BonusMom,
I hope that you have a good trip. I didn't think that the lip biopsy was bad at all. It hurt for a while, but I was able to eat at that wonderful Italian restaurant that we like so much that evening.
How many foci did your first one show? Mine was 1, which I found out online was positive for Sjogren's. I have the letter telling me about it, but my rheumy wasn't interested in discussing it.
Let me know what you find out this time.
    Hugs,
    Marla

so glad to hear that you and Jeff had a good time in SF. That is definitely on my Places To Get to List. Ikea is on the Places I've Already Been list. We have one around the corner from me. You could get lost in that store very easily. Next time you go try the cinnamon bun. mmmmmmm...good...
As long as this body works, I am going to enjoy life to the fullest for each second of every moment that I can.
