    Default light flashes

Has anyone who is on plaquinel for any lenghth of time had light flashes in their eyes? This is the second time i had to make and emergency visit to the eye doctors. On plaquinel you have to see him every six months but this has been in between that time. It is like someone was standing to the side of me flashing a camera even with my eyes closed and this time it is one big circle of light in my front view and when i turn my eyes it goes back and forth. The doctor said that he can see no damage to my retinas but to continue to moniter it and if it changes to let them know right away. This is the most bizzare thing to me. Bonita

    Bonita,
i had light flashes before I was diagnosed. so no prednisone or plaquinel then. my eye doc sent me to a specialist who did every test under the sun. Basically they told me that it was a sign that my retina may.....MAY... detach. the flashes have now slowed down. I only see them when I'm very tired. and nothing has detached.

please make sure you see your eye doc atleast every 6 months. I know that's expensive; but remember its your sight.
    Also please keep us updated.

Recently i too have had bad flashing lights and also tunnel vision.Im on the plaq, but i only get my eyes checked once a year.I recently had eye surgery(have two black eyes lol) and mentioned it to the doc who didnt seem interested lol.Surprise!! I did have it before the plaq so think its all down to migraine. You dont have to have the headache, you ca just have the lights for it still to be a migraine the doctor told me,i didnt realise this.Hope this helps ease your mind.

    Bonita,

It sure sounds like me. I had and have floaters in that eye also. did your eye doc explain about them. mine said the vittrious (sp) stuff in the eye was getting old and turning to old jello. (LOL that's the way he described it)

I feel like I'm falling apart at times. How about you?

Retina detaching...that's what nearly happened to my grandmother and she had the same symptoms. The doc was able to repair the problem and she healed quickly.

I was on plaq for six months a long time ago. I have some of your symptoms but had the floaters way before treatment. The flashes are fairly new. I get the flashes now and then, just the way you described it Bonita, but without the circle. Sometimes it can mess with my head...wondering if it's lightning, if a light bulb blew, or some critter from outside floated indoors. The worst is thinking, just for a split second, that a spider is webbing it's way down from the ceiling! I HATE it when that one happens. I'm so afraid of spiders!

Amanda, I didn't know you have tunnel vision too sweetie. (((Hugs)))

I seen my rheumotologist today. He says if these circles ever appear again i should call him right away and he will check me for brain lesions. But when i was younger i had a few mirgrains but never lights like these. My eye doctor said it is not my retinas and i go to see him in 3 weeks again. Thank you everyone bonita

Another thing to check into may be your blood pressure..

Glad you're getting it looked into. Let us know what they say.
