    Default Any suggestions

I am at a loss and don't know what to do and neither does any of the drs...
I am a severe eating problem... over the past few years (about 7 years or so) I have not been able to eat ceratin things for that it makes me really sick and causes me lots of pain in my stomach and back... I have had test after test all my life for this and nothing but the answer of IBS.... I can not grasp that it does not seem right....

about 5 years ago started reading the packages of food to see if we could find out more of what was causing the problems which became horrible.... I could not work and could not do anything....In that time I made several trips to the hospital and the dr.... took medicne for it all kinds nothing helped... some helped but then would only not work after a few weeks or so.... It was crazy.... nothing helped.... the gas and bloating was unbearable.... so bad that I was doubled up more of the time.... finely I got some medicne that seemed to help but was not a cure for the problem....

I still had sever flares and even reduced certain things that I ate to try and solve the problem... It helped....the dr said that my body was not digesting the food and placing it where it should... I had to cut out things like chicken and turkey and flour and corn meal then it got to the point where I had to cut out more and more foods such as foods that were cooked a certain way... If it was microwaved I couldn't eat it.... then if it was reheated I couldn't eat it... then I had to give up more and more things such as chocolate, peanuts, all types of soups and anything that had milk cooked in it... anything I ate became bland and awful.... due to this in one month I lost over 40 lbs was hospitalized.... then my iron level was effected by this and it got worse.... I started craving ice... was put on iron medication... 8 tablets a day....did nothing for me kept eating the ice, it got so bad that i washed all the blood platelets in my body away.... and started having seizures from no blood platelets.... It was at my worst...

Hubby spent many nights sitting up with me ribbing my back trying to get all the gas out of body so that I could just get some sleep... it seem to help.... we still do this today... there has been no help in fixing this problem except not eating certain foods....

In the last 2 weeks I have started back with severe problems with more foods... I am at my wits end with this and want some releif from it... the only releif is to not eat.... the dr does not know what to do about it anymore and have seen specailist after specailist....

I had to remove all pork from my diet, removed all candy, all drinks except Mt dew haven't had problems with it yet.... I had to remove most fruits, oranges and things like that.... I have removed all meats all together now and lot of other othings....

I am running out of food to eat.... this is not a joke.... after yesterday I am afaird to eat anything.... dr says may have to go back to the hospital over this.... but like I said to the dr what do we do if remove what is left of what I was eating.... dr says will have to find more medicne, or go Iv's for awhile to see if that helps....

I need help with this stopping eating is not an options.... continuing to remove food and not eat them is getting scary.... I am a diabetic and the only thing I can eat is sugar (now thats really good for me) not but what else do you do other than starve to death....

I can't even eat lettec or vegtables anymore.....

I have not eaten today for fear of what will happen... I stayed sick all last night because of this.... thowing up,in pain, gas and bloating... help with some suggestions....

does anyone else have this problem this bad?????

Yes, and it's called gastroparesis (GP). Find a gastroenterologist or a motility specialist and be seen. My stomach stopped functioning properly in November 2005. Suddenly, I couldn't eat anything. I woke in the morning, nauseous and vomiting (like morning sickness--except I KNEW I was not pregnant). I couldn't keep down milk, meat or anything. I tired of vomitting all the time and switched to an all liquid diet (yep, lost a lot of weight). When I strated re-introducing food, I found simple carbs the best as they are easier to digest than complex carbs, fat and fiber. Unfortunately, simple carbs can cause weight gain

Gastroparesis is thought to be idiopathic (unknown reason) in about 1/3 of the patients, 1/3 DIABETICS (due to neuropathy) and 1/3 post-surgical (the vagus nerve being damaged during abdominal surgery). It is because I'm part of a research study for GP that they discovered I have Lupus and Sjogren's Syndrome. I'd been complaining of dryness for years, body aches, fatigue (beyond narcolepsy that I was diagnosed with 10 years ago). I don't know if the GP "triggered" the AI stuff or vice versa, but they are finding that there is a link between AI issues in idiopathic patients and GP.

Because you're diabetic and your blood sugars are very difficult to maintain with a digestive system that's gone haywire, I would suggest you get in to see someone soon. It's not an eating disorder. It's something very real and with diabetes, you need to get it under control.

I had what I referred to as GP "flares" where I could eat by mouth and be fine and the tummy would start up again and I'd be back to liquids or praying to the porcelain gods (even before I knew what an AI flare was). It comes and goes. I can have a glass a milk one day and enjoy every drop. The next day it doesn't sit so well.

At my last appointment, they suggested I get the gastric pacemaker implanted (like a heart pacemaker). Although it's more successful in diabetics, idiopathics have shown some success (50/50). It's about the size of a pocket watch and can take up to one year to start seeing improvement. It doesn't help the motility of the stomach, just decrease the nausea and vomiting.

Sorry.....that's probably more information than anyone really wants to know about GP, but PLEASE understand it's nothing that you're doing on purpose and you really need to get it checked out. Let me know if I can help.

    hi lea,

hooray for BonusMom, she gave you some great information.

i was wondering if you have tried the BRAT (i think that is the name) diet....i have seen some conversations here about IBS, and they listed some basics foods that they eat when in an IBS flare.

I don't remember the specifics of this diet, but hopefully others will be along who can give the details.

good luck, i am so sorry that you are dealing with this....i hope someone here can help you.

Thanks I have seen gastric specailist, I have been poked and probed for years over this... I have tried this diet and that diet and nothing has worked... I have gastirc, and internal meds and several others checking into it and still nothing.... it just makes me sick that they can not do anything about it... Oh I will get to the point to where I have to go to the hospital and they will run some test again like they aways do and say try this med and see what happens...

Never ending story... I went to allergery dr and yes I understand that I have some allergeries but the allergery dr was thinking that I was allergic to food in general... still testing on that theory... sounds crazy... I lived like this all my life it's just in the past few years it has got worse, and in the last few weeks it and got worse again....

just don't know what to do about it anymore, the dr's dont seem to help and when you don't have insurance(lost insurance) it makes it hard to get treated right sometimes...

Leann...have you been to an allergist for testing? You could also have food allergies and have you been tested for Crohn's and Celiac disease? You can not stop eating, also have you had amylase and lipase tested (pancreas). All of these things can give you terrible discomfort. Hang in there and keep searching for an answer...eventually someone has to be right!!!
