When a healthy person becomes sick with a cold or an infection, the body sends in the troops to fight the invading cold or infection. Usually, this works (or may work with the help of medicine) and the healthy person returns to being healthy. I tell people that in a person with lupus, the troops go crazy. They stop recognizing the enemy and begin to attack one another, as well as anything else they can get their hands on - organs, joints, etc.
