    Default The Count Your Many Blessings Thread

    Rob gave me an idea when he started the "what good things happened to you today" thread. It was a great idea and very inspirational.

    It lead me to think of the daily blessings that I so often forget because of lupus, life, pain, negative self focus, etc. At this one little church they loved to sing the "Count Your Blessings" song all the time. The entire lyrics go;

    When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
    When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
    Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
    And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

    Count your blessings, name them one by one,
    Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
    Count your blessings, name them one by one,
    And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

    Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
    Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
    Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
    And you will keep singing as the days go by.

    When you look at others with their lands and gold,
    Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
    Count your many blessings. Wealth can never buy
    Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

    So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
    Do not be disheartened, God is over all;
    Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
    Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

    Here's something that I consider a blessing-

    My feet are numb. Since my MS diagnosis last year, because of the many CNS symptoms I have, the term ALS has also been thrown about as a possible diagnosis. Well, with ALS you retain all sensation and feeling in your extremities. With MS, you can have loss of sensation in the extremities on one, or both sides of your body. On top of SLE, I also have Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. As bad as SLE and MS are, they can at least, be treated, and dealt with. When I heard that I might have ALS, my heart sank, and I felt a kick in the stomach, and a fear like I've never known. I've faced what I thought was fear before, but I've never been so scared as when I heard my neuro tell me that ALS was a possibility. My cold tingling feet rule out ALS. I'm so glad that my feet are numb.

    When confronted with the absolute worst possible scenario, the lesser alternatives, however bad they may be, start looking pretty damn good.
