    Default Walking

    I tried to walk a little bit today down by the beach, but my lower back hurt so much I could hardly stand it. I fell about a week ago. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck wearing a back brace. I know they can be hot in the summer and I would like to find one that is breathable, if I get one. Any ideas! Thanks in advance.

    Sorry to hear about your pains. Did the doctor recommend that you were a brace?

    He could refer you to a specialist that can help you to find one that it right for you.

    A gentleman that I work with has several damaged vertabre. He will upon occation wear a back brace, but he really doesn't like it.

    He does however by the heated wraps that you wear like a brace. They hold the heat for up to 8 hours. It doesn't give any support really but he loves the heat. They are not cheap either. I think it's $10 canadain for a box and I think there are only one or two in the box and they are not reusable.

    Hope you'r feeling better today dear!

    I've heard ice is better for a back strain. But every time mine hurts I reach for the heating pad.... so don't mind me... :roll:

    Sometimes braces can be helpful for a temporary fix - but little by little the best thing will probably be to start GENTLY (is it appropriate to use caps when you want to be gentle?) start stretching and strengthening.

    If you can get your doc to recommend physical therapy, do so. They can help it heal even faster and teach you some good exercises to keep it stronger.

    Sorry about the back, DrinkofWtr. I've hurt my lower back several times, and I know how painful that is. It always feels like you should just rest - but I know very gentle exercise is what works best, in most cases (just like Hatlady says.) Check with your doctor, though, to be sure you haven't got an injured disk or something that would require a different kind of treatment. Hope you're doing better today.

    Thanks for your reply to my inquiry. I'll ask the Dr. about this back pain when I see him at the end of the month. I have been putting ice on it, and at times heat. Ice seems to work best. It probably cuts down on the inflammation. I mustered myself together enough to work the last couple of days, but it has really tired me out. I have to work p/t though to make ends meet. Thank god I don't have to put up with a full time job anymore. I know I couldn't handle it. I hope to have a peaceful weekend.

    Am not sure about wearing a brace unless it is medically recommended or by a physio or someone.

    But have you thought about a TENS machine?

    They seem to be really helpful for pain of many sorts including pain during labour (so they must be good!)
