Hi ya dandoon_88
I'm the queen of fluid on the knee. I've had both knees drained several times. And I've had cortisone shots in both knees twice.
I hope you did everything by the book as far as staying off your legs as much as possible for the first 6 days after the shots. It really is important to let the cortisone stay in the joint and do what it needs to do. The more movement the more you are leaching the cortisone out of the joint.
I know how much discomfort and pain you are in. Rest is the best thing right now. After the six days have past it's important to start moving. I dont care how good you feel...do NOT over do it! Move yes...but dont go running out and start gardening or what ever...go for little GENTLE walks. Did I mention DO NOT OVER DO!
Hopefully the cortisone shots will work for you. Basically the stuff is eating all the crud in your knee joint. My boss had his done one year before I had mine done. He's doing wonderfully ... he's still not having any problems.
As for me...I had about a week after the six day period that was swelling free and pain free.
That was it.
It was done a second time 3 months later...nothing. Misserable.
My family doctor started me on arthrotec 25 and then upped it to arthrotec 75. It's cut my pain and my swelling in half. Which is a blessing.
I know long walk with a cane though I keep them handy for bad days. I wear a Tensor soft sided velcro wrap around knee brace when I'm driving or doing house work. I can only stand to wear for about an hour or so...then it feels just as good to get it off as it did when I first put it on.
I do NOT recommend hindge knee braces. They are supposed to aligne (spelling sorry I am a terrible speller ) the knee joint. I was fitted by a "specialist" and I just want to beat him with it.
He said to keep wearing it even though it cause me GREAT GREAT amounts of pain and I listened to him cause I figured he knew what he was talking about....He didn't! I almost landed in a wheel chair cause of that idiot and it took me months for my knees to forgive me. They are aslo very expensive.
Any way :lilangel: you may want to try a soft sided knee brace...get the wrap around one so you can put it on and take it off easily and you can adjust the size as needed depending on your swelling. Do not wear it till you have passed your six day mark with the cortisone shot.
Compression socks...you can buy then at the drug store. I'm not talking about the ones you get fitted for. Those are too expensive and not worth the money.
These ones are labeled for diabetics. The come in white and black they are thick soled and stop below the knee. Keep them by your bed and befor you get out of bed in the morning put them on. They help control the swelling through out the day.
Summer is coming and I know I wont want to wear them...I'm a bare foot kinda girl so it's going to drive me nuts. I'm thinking of cutting the feet off a pair and see if I can wear them with my toes sticking out.
If you choose to get a cane. hold the cane in the hand opposit to your sore knee. As you step down on your sore knee weight bare on the cane. It takes some partice to get you rythem going...but that's the best way to walk with a cane. Most people try to use the cane on the same side as their sore knee but it's actually the opposite.
I dont know what climate you are in but here goes another shameless plug for satin pajamas and polar fleece bed sheets oh ya and a body pillow
How's your wallet book doing? Satin jammies help you turn over easy. Sparing your sore joints from being jarred. It also makes getting out of bed easier.
Body pillow $14 at wal mart. The pillow is a five foot tube, it's great for sleeping on your side with your leg braced over the top of it. I also have arthritis in my rib cage so it helps support my upper body as well.
Polar fleece sheets. $40 for queen size sheets where ever bed sheets are sold. I live in eastern canada...it's still very cold here and makes my joints ache like crazy when I get into a cold cold bed. The polar fleece does not seem to get cold. I slide into a warm comfortable bed. zZZZZzZzZZzzz all night long except for a cat who feels a need to massage my knees for me int he middle of the night.
One more thing...I'm on a roll...A very Long handled shoe horn...I love mine, and so does my cat...he thinks it's his.
