    Default New to this stuff

    :?
Hello. My name is Crystal. I am 37 and have two boy s. One 19 who is the the US Army. The other is 16. I was just diagnosed with Lupus the first of October. This came as a total shock. Back early this summer I was diagnosed with having Lyme disease. The last week of September my son took me to the emergncy room because my muscles in my body hurt so bad that I was crying. The emergncy room did labs, gave me meds, and sent me home. I had to go to my doctor a week later for a check up on my Lyme because I was in the process of moving with my son to his base. After being with the doctor for about fifteen minutes, she asked me if I had gone to the emergncy room, I told her yes and the reason why. She asked me if I had lab done, I said yes and asked her what was going on. She looks at me and says my lab test showed that I have Lupus. Asked her what that was and this is the answer I got - where the body starts rejecting your own body. She told me she was getting ahold of a specialist where I was moving because I had to have serious follow-up. Well I have no clue about Lupus. I am still not with the specialist because I now have to go through everything again with a family doctor where I am at before I can see a specialist here. I am now having constant pain. I can hardly get around. There are days I just don't want to get out of bed. Bless my family's heart, they are constantly helping with things. We are really confused about this disease. Some of my symtoms, I don't know if they are the Lyme disease or the Lupus. I had to go back to the e.r. a couple of weeks ago for back pain and they told me its the Lupus. I really could use the help understanding this disease. Thanks to everyone and nice meeting you all.

    Hi ArmyMom,

Welcome to our family. Lupus effects all of us in different ways; which makes this disease and it's cure a mystery. Everyone on this forum is supportive and informative. In Lupus, our good cells start attacking our good cells.

So . . . Do you have SLE or DLE or both? DLE means you have a rash usually on face and/or arms/shoulders of body. Have you seen a rhumatologist? Did they put you on any meds? If so, what? Plaquenil is very good to start out with, though you will need a baseline eye exam prior to beginning the medication. Check-up exams are suggested every 6 months to 1 year. Kenalog shots are great for relieving pain in the muscles and joints. I think of it as the "miracle shot." lol.

I would suggest Dr. Daniel Wallace's book "Lupus" and "Lupus for patients and families." You can find his book on amazon very reasonably or on ebay. It is very informative and helps in understanding this disease. I still reference back to it when new symptoms occur.

I am sorry to hear you have had such a rough time. We are here to listen and comfort. If we haven't had the symptoms, we will possibly have them at some point. Please share your experiences.

    Take care,

    Faith

I tested positive for Lyme too, but I had a spinal tap and it came back normal. it was a false positive and my dr told me that it was from the lupus that I tested positive by blood. you really need to see a a rheumy as soon as possible. when I was told about lupus, I went to web MD and got alot of info to start with. that may help you. good luck and stay strong!
