Welcome to our family. Faith has already given you information regarding Methotrexate and its side-effects. Some patients do not tolerate methotrexate and there are other disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs that can be given. These drugs are usually prescribed with immunosuppressants (like Prednisone). The other cytoxic drugs that you might consider instead of Methotrexate are:
Cytoxan, and Imuran.
You should also be aware that Lupus, itself, can cause nausea and hair loss. Do you have any lesions on your skin or open ulcers in your mouth, nose and scalp? If so, these lesions may be causing your hair loss and that hair loss may be happening more rapidly because of the Methotrexate.
The basic signs and symptoms of Lupus are: fever, fatigue, general discomfort, uneasiness or ill feeling, weight loss, skin rash, sensitivity to sunlight, joint pain and swelling, arthritis, swollen glands, muscle aches,
nausea and vomiting, pleuritic chest pain, seizures, and psychosis.
As Faith suggested, it may be advisable for you to alert your doctor to these symptoms so that it can be determined if they are caused by the medication or if they are symptoms of the disease. I wish you the very best and I am glad you joined us!
Peace and Blessings
