    Default Urinary infection and Lupus?

Here are my symptoms: EXTREME burning and urgency when urinating, red blood staining and small clots when urinating.

I had a complete hysterectomy twenty four years ago and have not had a period since, so that is off the table as an explanation.

This began one week ago. Is this a lupus related event? Is this a UTI? The blood part is my concern. I am on Plaquenil 2x day.

Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

You can pass blood with an extreme UTI infection, drink some cranberry juice or they have the pills at the pharmacy you can take for relief of burning. But go to the Dr. ASAP so you can get some antibiotics. I've had a few UTI's as well I think they are related to having SLE.

Thank you morning star. I'm now hot on the trail of an answer.

I began drinking cranberry juice this weekend and have a call in to my rheumy since early this morning (Mon). My symptoms continued Sat & Sun (I work w/e's) so it's not a fluke.

Rheumy (this AM) said (via phone) to go see GP ASAP --- GP saw me immediately (before noon) and scolded me for not calling immediately upon symptoms. He Rx'd a week's supply of Cipro and scheduled a complete physical in two weeks.

I'm glad that you went to see a doctor about this. I know it's only been a day or so, but have you noticed any relief from the Cipro? I've heard that it works well!
I hope you are feeling better

Yes, Saysusie, it's only one day and a half, and I actually feel better. No more blood --- and the burning is gone. Cipro seems to be one powerful med. Thanks for your reply.
