Have any of you ever heard of trichloroethylene in well water and silica dust being called triggers for Lupus? Do any of you even know what either one of those things are? And what they come from? And how we can find out more about them?
Interesting. You sent me right to "webMD" to type in "silica dust"
I got an article - right up top - that links both of those to potential chemical triggers that can cause lupus.
I knew a woman on another board who had chemically - triggered lupus, in her case, a landlord (or former owner?) had improerly used agricultural pesticides on a house or apartment she was in.
I guess that's another reason to try to go organic, chemical free, etc...
Oh, MrsM, by the way.... I keep a jar of marbles in my office.
So I can always PROVE I haven't lost all of mine! (Otherwise people would truly think I have most days....)
I'm more concerned about the well water than the silica dust. I'm thinking silica dust is probably easy to avoid ...crud in my well water is not. Does anyone even know what this trichloroethylene is? Or where it comes from? Or what it does? I wonder if it's drinking the water or washing with it or what?
Hatlady ....a jar of marbles is a great idea. made me smile
Unfortunately, I know more about TCE than a person ought to know.
It comes from several places, dumps - leachate travels through the
soil and can get into wells. It also is a dry cleaning solvent and
used in cleaning automotive parts.
It is very dangerous. If you know that you have it in your well
water your worst danger comes from breathing in the fumes as
you take a shower. It is not good for drinking either.
I hope this helps. I will find the web address that will give you
details so please reply and I will let you know who to get in contact
with. They are a wealth of information (free of charge).
Yes please send me the web address for the info on trichloroethylene. I have a well and I'm concerned it may be a contributing factor in my lupus. Is it easy to test for in the water?
If you feel comfortable sharing, I'd be interested in your experiences with all this.
Hi Mrs M.
I did a wikipedia search for you and one in OSHA, links below...Love the wikipedia.com. In Hawaii, we use to catch the Wiki Wiki. A bus, shuttle from the airport or to. Means Hurry, hurry..quick, quick..
Here's to finding wellness,
And also OHSA www.osha.gov is a great place to learn how toxins, chemicals...
This is about silica dust..
OMG, you guys just stirred up a major can of worms, after reading this thread ive be searching the terms, being a non classical case of lupus(white male over 40) im always looking for explantions!!! the links to tce are many
in 1981 aboard a navy ship, I ran, issued, cleaned, and maintained the paint locker and paint storage areas, we used dry cleaning/metal solvent for paint cleaner and thinner, back then we had no access to rubber gloves or aspirators so the exsposure to use was great
am i just pulling at straws or anyone have any ideas???

Thank you Oluwa ...don't know why I didn't think of and do that myself ....darn brain fog me thinks. I will check it all out in a few.
By the way, I'm glad your friend Ashley is back online and feeling better. You're a good friend to keep posting for her even with no responses. I enjoy the "conversation" between the two of you and treat it like a good book written in serial form
You're welcome Mrs. M. With Lupus we need the extra head of another sometimes.
I enjoy my conversation with Ashley too.
Keep finding wellness,
