How to get insurance to pay for treatment
I have a friend who is a medical director at a big insurance company. I asked him how to get insurance to pay for treatments that they don't want to cover. He told me two things. First, be persistent. If you appeal a decision three times they will often relent. That can be tedious from personal experience. I went to one appeal meeting-not three. The other thing he said is that they don't like to get bad press. So call a nenwspaper and tell them your story. Don't forget to have you doctor write a letter of medical necessity as a first line. That worked for me and got me Rituxin. Another thing that worked for me once was to pay for the treatment and then show them that it worked. That can help get "experimental" treatments covered.
Good luck to all!
Thank You, Cramer, for the advice. I appealed only once, and when it was denied again, I gave up!
