Different labs can use different methods and reference ranges for the ANA test. So knowing exactly what they meant by "borderline" really depends on the lab and terminology they use. Has your doctor discussed your test results with you yet?

It is confusing the way it is written. Two things I can suggest to ask - first, what test method was actually used to do the test? There are different nethods, and they don't necessarily give the same results each time. Second, were additional tests run to look for antibody subsets such as ds-dna, anti-RNP, ENA, etc? Since the ANA test is a very non-specific test, generally the antibody-subset panels have more diagnostic value than the ANA test does. So if no additonal panels were run, this might be something you want to request.
