    Default Favorite holiday music?

What is your favorite holiday music? Just wondering if anyone has a particular favorite holiday song - none of the local radio stations seem to be playing anything festive, it makes it hard for me to get in a Christmas mood with no music and no snow.

    Default baby its cold outside

    Hi Marycain
Last Christmas, we got a CD (maybe a starbucks compilation) and my little boys got their hands on it. They became obsessed with Baby Its Cold Outside, its very swinging music. They played it on our bedroom DVD player and I was usually lying in bed unwell while they would dance around singing. This year all I can do is smile when they play it. I love Little Drummer Boy, Silent Night, and the famous kids ones.
I know what you mean about the snow. I live in Ottawa, Canada and usually by this time we have loads of snow. This year the grass is still green. I have never seen this in my 35 years in Ottawa!! I am not really that into Christmas this year - alot of people seem to feel the same way. Well I should say I am not into the commercialism and normally its fair to say I do my share to support the retail economy. I have found it hard to have alot of faith since my illness. You obviously have a tremendous amount of faith and you give so much to the people on this site - I can't imagine how much you give to all the people in your life. I find you very inspirational.. Thanks so much for all that you do and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and year to come.

Ill second Karen's sentiments. You really are inspirational, Mary!

I really love a variety of holiday music, but I have two favorities - "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" done by Mel Torme (yeah, I'm old) and "Joy to the World" done by almost any choir. I particularly loved hearing "Joy to the World" sung by my granddaughter's class at her Christmas program. She's in first grade, and my best buddy (carrot red hair, big brown eyes and freckles...oh so cute!)

    Happy Holidays....

The boys like "silly songs" like "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" _ they are not musical at all and don't care anything about carols. I love the ballads like "Mary Did You Know" and "I Wonder as I Wander" -and especially "Maker of the Stars". And don't laugh but my favorite Christmas album of all time is Elvis's first Christmas album - not quite Mel Torme. I think my favorite Mel Torme Christmas song is "Christmas Was Made For Children" (guess I'm old too  ) Your grandaughter sounds like a cutie - don't you love children's holiday programs? Even when they forget the lyrics they're still soooo cute.

I'm also having a very difficult time enjoying Christmas. Here it is the 21st and I haven't put up one single decoration yet :?
Anyway, my most favorite song is "This Christmas" and the songs that I love to sing at every Christmastime gig are "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and "O Come, O Come Emmanuel".
We have XM radio and they have been doing a wonderful job of playing Christmas songs on three stations; standards, jazz and contemporary! It is on all day and every day in my house and in my car
In Southern California, we have been having a major cold spell lately. Which means, for the High Desert Area, we are having frost and icy streets. So, I do believe that we are in for some snow very soon.

I hope everyone is managing to have a loving, warm and joyous season so far

    Peace and Blessings

Susie, I'm sorry you're having a diffcult time enjoying the holiday this year. I live in Northern Minnesota and we have no snow here. We've had temperatures in the 40s and nearly 50 in the last couple of weeks - so weird - it doesn't feel like Christmas. If my husband hadn't been in the mood to help me, I don't think we'd have any decorations up either. It's always been my job (and my joy!) to decorate the house. This year I just didn't have energy, so Mark had to do most of it for me - under my watchful eye! But it's not the bright lights or the tree or the ornaments that make Christmas, of course. For me, it's the story of hope that's behind it all, and the faith that comes from knowing the story. If you have faith and hope in your heart, Susie, then you've got all the 'decorations' you need. I'm praying that your Christmas is just what you need it to be this year. Thanks for all you do for all of us.

Even though I too live in Southern California, I love country christmas songs. Songs about snow crack me up because we will never see it this close to Los Angeles.

I love "O Holy Night" sung by Martina McBride, which is my very favorite christmas song of all time. Garth Brooks also put out a nice CD of christmas songs a few years ago that I love.

Being a singer myself, I love the old Standard Christmas carols. They are so fun to sing and to listen to. The kids love them and they love to sing with me.

What a fun topic! Thanks Marycain!
