Costochondritis usually causes a sharp pain right where your ribs meet your breastbone - like pericarditis, it can feel like you're having a heart attack. It usually goes away on its own but it can take several weeks for the soreness to go away completely.
The Costochodritis pain is no joke, I thought it was so much more painful than pleurisy. It made my entire ribcage hurt, reminded me of when I broke my ribs horseback riding as a kid. In fact my doctor said it's very important to treat with anti-inflamatory meds because in extreem cases the pressure from the tissue between your ribs swelling can actually fracture your ribs. Pain killers didn't help me much on their own but a Rx advil really made a dent in the pain, I took one of the 6 day packs of predinisone too but I never feel good when I'm on it. In the end being on plaquenil keeps it from comming back for me...good luck.
