    Question What do you drink?

We all know pop (soda) is bad for us. And me, like most folks, drink way more than I should.

Having secondary ckd only increases my need to stop drinking it. I know it's bad-ok really bad-for me, but I'm addicted to that carbonated sorcery lol I've strictly followed "if you can't see through it, it's harmful" (meaning dark pops like Pepsi, coke, etc) but I still binge on the "clear" varieties.

Not to mention the calories-yikes! My biggest down fall (always has been) is that I DRINK my caloric intake for the day. And then some. Food, forget about it lol the pudge growing around my pudge prone areas isn't from food (I can't do gluten, so sinful things like bread products, don't appeal to me in the least) I'm a veggie kinda gal, and since having to cut my purines....meat is definitely even less than it use to be (along other high foods like spinach, sadly).

So here's my question: what do you drink?

I'm looking for beverages that are low in sodium, calories & aren't full of syrup/sugars...yet enough flavor to satisfy.

I've tried crystal light, koolaide, etc but honestly I get burnt out after a weeks time.
I've thought about Gatorade or powerade but they're high in sodium :-/

Sooooo does Anyone know of any tasty, kidney friendly quenchers, besides h2O???

I had to quit drinking sodas myself (especially the dark kinds) because of a history of kidney stones. I drink a lot of unsweetened decaffinated iced tea, but I heard that tea is not all that good for the kidneys either. Other than that, I am at a loss also as far as low calorie beverages are concerned. My Dr. said just drink a lot of water, eight to ten glasses a day.

I know they are bad for me, but I am addicted, I admit it............
"I am a diet cokaholic!!!!!!!!! I'll suffer through UTIs. I'll go six weeks max without, but I always cave.

There is no hope, believe me I've tried many times.

    I'm hopeless

Hi, my name is Rita and I am a recovering soda addict. For 35 years ( not a typo) I drank 2-12 cans of
Pepsi a day. When packing for vacation, the first thing I did was calculate how many sodas I would need and how to pack them. ( no soda machines in the woods). I lived for Pepsi. Heaven help anyone who got in between me and my addiction.
My mom died. Stroke brought on by years of not taking care of herself. My top front tooth chipped 1/2 off from a plastic straw. The soda leached so much calcium from my teeth that you could read through my front top teeth. I quit that day. Cold turkey. Amazingly, it must have been the right time as I didn't go through withdrawal. I had tried before but got massive headaches so this time was a blessing.
I started drinking and liking water. Before I rarely drank anything but Pepsi. I was dehydrated for years. Now I was liking refreshing water.
3 years later I have found a new liquid addiction: chamomile and lavender tea, brew up a strong cup, let it cool, fill a one liter bottle with the cup off tea, add one packet of True Lemon lemonade, fill the rest of the bottle with cold water and oh my my my!!!! Healthy, hydrating and delicious!

I am very big on "INFUSED WATER". I add fresh fruits and herbs to my water and they are delicious. It has curbed my longing for carbonated drinks. Here are a few ideas for infused water:
    1. Fresh Mango and fresh Mint (yummmm)
    2. Fresh Lime and Fresh Mint
    3. Fresh Strawberry and Fresh Pineapple
    4. Jalepeno, cucumber, fresh mint
    5. Mandarin Orange, fresh basil, black tea
    6. Fresh Lemon and Mandarin Orange
    7. Fresh Lemon and Fresh Lime
    8. Fresh Watermellon (cut in small pieces and leave the rind on) and fresh lemon

These are just a few recipes..you can be creative according to your taste buds! I hope you enjoy!

    Peace and Blessings
