    Default Severely itchy skin

Wondering if anyone has experience with an itchy rash.

SLE rashes aren't supposed to itch. I don't get the butterfly rash, but my photosensitive rashes are red and blotchy, and don't itch.

This winter, I've had a lot of itchy patches on my back, thighs, buttocks and ankles. When I rub or scratch them, they become raised, but not red unless I really go at them. They do respond to hydrocortisone cream.

Officially, Atopic Dermatitis isn't associated with SLE. But I read something earlier today which says there are occurrences with people with SLE, Sjogrens, and scleroderma, maybe MCTD. What they all have in common is an elevated ANA. My ANA was 1:1280 2 years ago when it was died, and only recently dropped to 1:640. Still really elevated. My other diagnostic labs have returned to normal ranges.

Thus far, my rheumy was unimpressed when I asked about AD.

It appears that there really isn't a treatment for AD besides the hydrocortisone cream and Benedryl if the itch is keeping you awake at night. It's maddening!

    Anyone else?

    hi ruth,
lupus does not obey the doctor's notes.
in the past there has been quite a few different threads on similar itchy skin.

i have found the best for me is hydrocortisol cream,
but the side effect is that it stops the skin from regenerating,
    this causes thin skin.

the second best, is what i regularly use ....
it is a soap that removes the itch, but does not fix anything.
this soap is olive oil soap.
    no preservatives
    no aromas
    no anything artificial

i have found the soap is quite effective,
although i do need to use it twice a day quite often.
When you're stressed, You eat Ice cream, Cake, Chocolate & Sweets. Why? Because stressed spelled backwards is DESSERTS.

I get patches of itchy skin and I use an oatmeal protein soap. Also, I use of all things sandalwood soap. I don't know why this soap helps my itching skin, but for some reason it does. I am not saying that it will work for you, but it might be worth a try.
