    Default Floaters / Uveitis, Anyone?

So, for about the past month or so, I've noticed an increasing number of squiggly little floaters in both eyes, more on one side. Maybe a couple dozen total. I read that this can be a symptom of intermediate or posterior uveitis (eye inflammation), so I called my ophthalmologist, and I'm going in for an evaluation in a couple of weeks (no rush because I've had the floaters for over a month and they're not getting worse and I haven't lost any visual acuity).

So, your stories on this topic? Has anyone had a bunch of floaters before, and if so, what was your diagnosis and how was it treated? Or, have you had uveitis? What were your symptoms?

    Thanks, all!

I had something similar about 16 months ago - turned out to actually be a couple of small blood clots in my eye, due to APS...and it's how I ended up with my Lupus diagnosis, thanks to a really sharp Ophthalmologist who referred me to a Rheumy.

I am now on daily aspirin to prevent clots, and of course treatment for the lupus and sjogrens as well. The eye is slowly healing - it can take up to 2 years - but it's doing really well - just had my one-year re-check and it's substantially healed now.

Definitely get it checked, and keep in mind the clot possibilty. APS often accompanies other autoimmune diseases.

Thanks, Steve. At first I thought it might have been dust or something, but the floaters I see seem to be inside my eyes-- they move with my eye movements and have stuck around for over a month.

I described it all to my ophthalmologist, and she thinks they sound like floaters in the vitreous part of my eye, which is why she wants me to come in. She said people tend to have them on and off especially as they age, but she was concerned about me having a bunch at once.

Doesn't bother me too much. Just hoping it ends up not to be a big deal.

And Sleepy-- how did your vision change when you had your eye issue?

Just as you say - I actually didn't get it checked right away because I was sure they were just middle-aged "floaters" (my horse has them too, LOL). But when I went to my optometrist (who I just happened to have an annual appointment with around the time they showed up), he looked in there and said there were no floaters, and he didn't know what it was - so he sent me to a retina specialist - she did a bunch of specialized tests, and that's how we found out.

Chances are they ARE just floaters - but definitely check it out thoroughly one way or the other. I just brought it up because APS is so commonly associated with Lupus, and if you are having clotting it'll be important to treat it - the clots can be in the eye or anyplace else - like the brain or lungs, which can obviously be much more serious.
