Toradol - favorite joint pain/stiffness pain meds?
I went in to my primary this morning to discuss my severe knee pain, swelling and stiffness the last 8 weeks or so. I've had knee pain since I was 20 years old and an old MRI showed arthritis damage in 2002, but now, the pain is worse than I've ever experienced it. I can barely drive, barely walk up stairs, I even struggle with sharp, stabbing pain just trying to get up out of a chair or off the couch! In the middle of the night, my boyfriend says I will attempt to straighten my leg out, will yell out in pain and then cry myself back to sleep.
So I asked the PA this morning about it at my doctor's office and her first suggestion, which I took, was a shot of Toradol where the sun don't shine. In doing a quick Google search I guess this is a more potent NSAID that athletes sometimes use before games. She gave me an Rx of a pill form of the same medication and requested an Xray and MRI on my knee. Has anyone taken Toradol before and if so, did you have any luck with it? Lately I've been taking about 3000mg (yes, you read that right) of Ibuprofen or Naproxen daily to combat the pain and inflammation just so I can move around and function. I really want a narcotic that I can use sparingly when I need it to avoid such high doses of NSAIDS, but I was wondering if perhaps Toradol worked better than over the counter NSAIDs so I could take less?
I scheduled the MRI for next Tuesday afternoon and got the Xray done about an hour ago. Hopefully I'll get a call back tomorrow on how the Xray looked so far.
So other than Toradol, for those of you with pain, stiffness and swelling in your joints, what pain medications or therapies have worked best for you?? Thanks.
