Question Rhuematologist in the Chicagoland area?

I hope this the appropriate place to post this, if not I'm completely sorry in my mistake!

I was hoping that someone could recommend a good rheumatologist in the Chicagoland area (or southern sub burbs)? Much to my despair Our new insurance is not accepted at my previous rheumy's in Elk Grove. If anyone could leave any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!

Don't worry, you can post on any subject you want in Lauri's Lounge, so you're in the right place.

If memory serves, I believe our member n.mac is from Chicago. He might be able to help you find a new rheumo.

I can help you eliminate. The two from DuPage Medical Group that I have seen, I am unimpressed with. I have a friend who sees someone from Rush in the city. She's been with him for a long time and I can get his name if you are interested. I did find one that I was really interested in seeing and after I made the appt. they called and said they were not taking new patients. Huh? Why didn't someone say that 3 weeks earlier when I made the appt?

I don't know how much you're into reading a 6 page thread, but over in the Newly Diagnosed area is:

I see Dr.Sunil John with the Advocate Medical Group in Orland Park il.
I am quite pleased with him and for what it is worth my wife is a nurse and when lupus was first suspected and I was advised to see a ruhemy she asked drs she knew and trusted for recommendations and that is how we found him.

I have heard of coal city and granite city but where the heck is limestone?

    Thanks everyone for replying!

Manderson: thank you, I may if all else fails. I've been to rush a few times, horrible drive! Lol but I'd be willing if I can't find a decent one closer.

Jmail: it was worth the six page read, however the only physician I saw for IL was a nephrologist thanks for the suggestion though!

Nmac: Limestone is west of Kankakee, towards dwight/hersher/bonfield if you know where those are lol we don't have a post office and just a school for grades k-8 so not many have heard of it! Orland would be great, we travel for dentists up to new Lenox, so it wouldn't be much further! In the process of asking my sister who has a friend newly diagnosed with sle-actually recently referred him to this forum- who I believe also sees someone in orland(perhaps the same?).

Thanks again for all the suggestions, if anyone has anyone else feel free to comment as well, it's always great to have a backup!

After I posted the reply I remembered asking you about limestone before-several months ago. Can I blame that on lupus fog-I never used to be that forgetfull! lol!

Dr. John has an office in Bourbonas (I know I'm spelling that wrong-next to Bradley) I went there once when I missed my appointment and he didn't want me to wait a week to see him at the orland office.

Here in the greater Chicago area we are lucky to have more options than many I have seen on WHL.
As well you might want to check w/ the il. chapter of the lupus foundation of america

Thank you nmac! I myself was vaguely remembering that conversation, but wasnt quite sure! Lol

Oh : ( when you mentioned the last name John I was crossing my fingers it wasn't the same dr but it is. No offense to you, I'm sure he's capable-but he was the first rheumy I saw after being referred. I actually almost gave up after seeing him, maybe it was a bad day for him, but he treated me like a complete and utter hypochondriac : ( maybe it would be different now, all I've been through and had done-but he pretty well still intimidates me to try again! Lol

Thank you though for getting back to me! : )

Back to the drawing board! Lol

Our accountant did mention a Dr. Rheu (spiffy name for a rheum eh?) from DMG. Accountant said that she has no bedside manner but she does take the time. She's out here in the western 'burbs altho I am not sure which one.

So sorry your having problems finding a good ruhemy!
I'm not sure if my labs are just over the top obvious screaming lupus or what but I have never had the experience of a dr questioning my diagnoses.

It must be frustrating to say the least to know your sick and not be taken seriously by the specialist who is supposed to help you.
