    Default Update on Son's deployment

He's currently stateside prepping for his deployment. He leaves for Afghanistan 11 November. Not only is that Veteran's Day (ironic?), it is also his son's first birthday. As an American, I am very proud of him. As a mom, I just want to wrap my arms around him and never let go.

I certainly know how you feel-I would have traded places with my daughter in a heartbeat!
Now that she has been in Afghanastan for a few weeks she seems to have settled in well.
Everytime I have talked to her she seems very upbeat. She has made many new friends and after work they get together to play board games or volleyball.
She is also taking advantage of her downtime by taking a couple of online classes.
They work alot-12 hr shifts,6 days a week and so far she has not left the base where she is stationed. It is a very remote base but the uso does what it can to help out and she doesn't seem to have any problems getting phone access as well as facebook posting!
She called this morning to request a care package of her favorite running shoes and gummy bears.
Try not to worry(I know easier said than done) Take Care Niall

    Rita and Niall,
I know how tough it is to have your baby over there. Technology is great - we can keep in touch with them and send our love often.
We will all be glad to hear when they both come safely home.
    Hugs,
    Marla

... and really, I shouldn't have said "the big sand box", 'cause it should be for anyone serving their country, where ever their deployment...
