There are several of us dealing with bursitis right now. It isn't a sign of Lupus but it is caused by inflammation. When it gets to the point that meds don't help steroid shots do. It can be very painful and yes, makes it hard to sleep.

As for the length of flares, they can go ffrom days to months with either fibro, Lupus or other AI diseases. Each of usbisndifferent and our bodies respond differently. If your doc offered steroid shots it might be your best bet.

I got in to the Rheumy today and got three shots in my right rump for the pain I have had for three years. Next month I will get the knee, which is what is making it hard to walk. I am supposed to start physical therapy, I wish I had more faith in it, had it for my butt, hip pain last year and it didnt help. First sign for me that something was up. Then it hit everywhere this year.

There was a time when I thought I was lucky to actually get paid a respectable amount of money for doing something I loved. "You mean you're actually going to pay me to shoot guns all day?"

Well, 20 years and thousands of rounds later, my right shoulder is trashed, and the left isn't much better. (I learned to shoot ambi after the right shoulder gave me problems)

    Bursitis, inflammation, and overuse.

    Ouch.

That actually may be a sign. Some doctors use steroids as a compass for Looking in the Lupus direction. If steroids don't work they will try looking in another direction because most AI diseases (lupus included) respond well to steroids
