    Default Whirlwind diagnosis

Thankfully, I didn't have to suffer like so many of you for years with symptoms and no diagnosis. I had a sudden onset of symptoms and very elevated anti ds DNA discovered by my ob/gyn after an elevated c reactive protein prompted more bloodwork. It took a while to find a rheumatologist who would take my insurance, but once I did, he promptly diagnosed SLE and started me on plaquenil right away. He went to a medical conference the next week after I saw him. That's when the crushing chest pain started, so I ended up at urgent care and was diagnosed with pericarditis. As soon as my doctor returned, he put me on pred and colchicine. The big elephant standing on my chest is just starting to step off a little.

While this has been going on, I have been reading these boards for information and support and am so glad to join this incredible community. It is easy to feel alone when you don't feel well, but still have to try and take care of your family and work.

Looking forward to making lupie friends and fighting this disease!

    Hi Chesterwin,

Now that you know us, you will never feel alone again.
I am glad, the elephant is finally moving over.
You are lucky, that you had a fast diagnosis and put on meds right away.
    Welcome to WHL.

I may have been dealt a bad hand, but at least I'm still playing with a full deck. ( most of the time anyway).

    Welcome to the WHL Family!

You're "lucky" in that you had clear and convincing evidence of SLE, with labs to support it and a rheumy that was educated. Woot! As you know, it's not always the case.

So sorry you had to deal with pericarditis-it sounds miserable and oh, so painful. Fortunately, I've not had it <shudder>. All told, I've been very lucky.

    Again, welcome aboard!

    Hi Chesterwin,
Welcome to WHL. You are a lucky girl to have an observant OB/GYN and to have found a good rheumy.
I hope that you stick around and join in on our conversations.
    Hugs,
    Marla
