    Smile Anyone in west Texas?!

I'm having a very hard time even finding a rheumy in the west Texas area, much less any support locations. Please let me know if you are in this area and have any information regarding doctor's and/or support groups!

    Thanks!

Good luck though, Im in the Panhandle area of Texas and have found that unless you live in south texas or the Dallas Houston area you won't find much in an actual support group. Thats why I love this site so much.

That's terrible! I wish I knew a way to locate people in the area with Lupus. I literally only know of one person with it (I know there are much more). Maybe we can start a thread for Texas and regardless of them having a support group, we can find others like us in the various areas. I just need some major help finding a doc haha! Dang small towns that Texas is full of don't leave room for options!!

Yea I know, it was hard when I first got lupus because I don't think this site existed yet. I have never met anyone with lupus either, my town is small is but has a bunch of medical places, mostly because Amarillo is the largest town coming from all sides for hours helps. Except there was only two people who treated lupus, only one now, and I only got a spot with my doctor because another patient died. You think with how large Texas is that it wouldn't be that way, but like you said with all the small towns it makes it hard.

    Hi,
I used to live in San Antonio, and I'll be moving back there in a year or so. I know that Texas is huge, but we seem to have a lot of members from around the state. Someday (after I'm back) we need to choose a spot and have a Texas get-together.
Is it possible for you to travel to somewhere like Dallas or Waco? I would think that the university towns would have decent docs.
I had some great ones in SA. I now live in a small town in CA, and I'm dealing with the same problems that you have. There are only three rheumys here on the peninsula - one is the do-nothing that I see and the other two I've been warned about are close to retiring and should have done so long ago. There are great docs 100 miles away in San Francisco, but I would have to convince the do-nothing to refer me there, so I'm stuck until I move back to SA.
Good luck and keep in touch until I get back there.
    Hugs,
    Marla

I think that would be a great idea Marla! The town I'm in is literally about 5 hours away from every major city in Texas. Houston is about 7 of course. The west Texas area has only 3 rheumy's as well, and two I've read/heard are a complete waste of your time and money. The other one is booked solid and new patients won't be seen until July! I may try to see someone in Lubbock, since there is a university there as well. Thankfully the insurance from my company doesn't require me to have a referall anywhere and the network covers most of Texas.
