Default Severe stomach pain & Maxolon (metoclopramide)

Hey guys just need some quick info...

Have been very sick, my stomach has been bloated/jammed up... I have been vomitting up any food I eat and have terrible stomach pain. When liquid drains from my stomach I can feel it and it causes pain. My regular GP has been gone for over a month on holidays (gee wish I could do that!) so I had to go see another GP there. She was very rude at first, clearly not believing me (I have a tendancy to put on a very brave face and look chatty and happy regardless). She looked through my records and was flabbergasted... she said I had the medical history of about four people. Regardless, she still seemed to brush the whole stomach thing off, it has been like this a long time but this is the worst it has been.

Anyway, she said for now I need to stay on liquids until I feel like eating and then start back up with simple things like steamed rice or plain toast.

I pushed her for something more definitive, she told me I would need to sort it out myself and gradually test what foods I can and cant eat. She prescribed me maxolon... but when I read the information it said not to use it if you have a blockage because it promotes stomach contractions. Well the contractions arent a problem!! They are there and they are painful because nothing can get out of my stomach for what ever reason. I am really pissed off that she didnt listen to me and even more pissed off that she prescribed something that may cause more pain.

Should I take it to test it out? If there is a blockage and I do take it, I guess I will know for sure!!

I hate this place, I have to wait another month before I can see a doctor again.

if you are taking a fluid diet, then bowel movements should be loose.
there is over the counter meds to help make them loose.
(my wife uses coloxyl with senna), as it does not cause complete diarehha (sp)

    i use moxolon when required.
    it works well for me.
i have no issues with blockages.
my longest stint was using it daily for about 2 months.

    Thanks steve : )
I think my blockage is more to do with inflammation of the upper intestine or stomach. I wanna know why I have inflammation! But I think just like the doc said, im on my own : /

But I just took my first tablet so lets see how it goes : )

Have your doctors tested you for IBS which may be a result of Fibromyalgia? Many of us, with Lupus, also suffer from Fibromyalgia and one of the most significant symptoms of FM is IBS. Irritable Bowel Syndrome also afflicts those with Lupus (without a FM diagnoses). IBS is a condition that causes stomach bloating, pain, cramping and bowel changes. People with IBS can switch between diarrhea or constipation, but many suffer from both.

Also, many Lupus patients suffer from celiac's disease and crohn's disease. You might want to ask your doctor to test you for the possibility of these conditions as well. If none of the above are the cause of your issues, it is important to find the root of you bowel obstruction as this can lead to serious issues. The main diagnostic tools are blood tests, X-rays of the abdomen, CT scans and/or ultrasound. The next time that you visit a doctor, insist that they run these tests so that the underlying cause can be found and treated before serious complications arise. Please let us know what you find out and how you are doing.

    Peace and Blessings

    Thank you Saysusie : )
I will definitely insist the doctor orders some tests because this is getting silly. I had the celiac test done and it came back negative I think, she never did mention it again.

Susie stated it perfectly. I had bowel issues for YEARS (liquid and unable to stay out of the restroom within 10 min of eating) and no one thought it was important enough to check into. One day it came up in here and I went to the doctor and he said " Oh yea it is IBS. I have known that". Umm, gonna give me something for it? He did give me meds and it got better and then it came back. He said I will most likely have to go off and on these for years but at least I know what to do now.

    Hope that helps!

My problem is it doesnt get past my stomach : /
My abdomen has bloated up so I look pregnant. I get maybe a day or two of eating near normal before I simply cant not eat and need to spend three or four days on fluids only.
My doc doesnt get back from her holiday until the 28th. I am so very angry. I have spent thousands on doctors and am no closer to any solution. Thing is... I am putting on weight as well!! I eat less than a thousand calories a day and I have put on about 15kgs. I dont know whats going on.
