Smile Hi i'm very new to this!

My name is Paula and lupus nephritis runs in my family. My dad died from kidney problems at the age of 21. Now that his sister thinks back on it since she found out that she has lupus nephritis, we believe that he had same thing. I'm very close to my tia and she has a moderate case of L.N, she is 37 yrs old and been thinking/wanting to have another child. She had her first at the age of 29 and found out that she has lupus nephritis and its effecting her kidneys and had to have my cousin at 6 months because of her kidneys problems and her high blood pressure due to the L.N. Her Dr. says she can have another child but gave her the risk and wont give her a speacialist to see if it is a opition. I do have to say that my lil' cousin and had alot of problems and now that he is 8 yrs old, he has grown out of them some what but he as normal as me and you...(and very funny.) I would really like some of yalls opinions.

    Hi Paula,

Welcome to the WHL family. I really can't give an opinion on this one because I was spayed (LOL) before my Lupus was diagnosed. What I can say is that the people here can give their own opinions and what they have been through or been told by their doctor but this really is a question for your own doctor. If you are not comfortable with the one you currently have then find another that you have more faith in. This is an important issue so please keep us posted!

    Hey Paula!
Its funny how once we know someone in our family has lupus, we start connecting the dots with other family members. I'm sorry I can't help you much with your question - i just wanted to stop by and give you a super quick welcome to the forum. So, welcome (: Make yourself at home!

Welcome, Paula! It's so hard to see the people we love suffer and not be able to do much. Your aunt should have choices where it comes to doctors, even if she is in an HMO or needs a physician referral. A doctor would have to have a pretty big ego, IMHO, or a lawyer on payroll if he goes around refusing to let patients get consults or second opinions.

Your aunt is lucky to have you on her side. I am sorry about your dad, that's got to be a scary legacy for you and I hope you are getting checked out regularly yourself.

Thank you all for being so nice. @ Gizmo: I'm really not sure if he is refusing her to get a second opinion its that he has told her that he knows some other dr. that can help her ( with wanting to see if possible she can have another child) but wont/hasn't give her the number. And I have mention to her to get another opinion on everything including weather she can have a child, but i believe she really doesnt want to (she says she doesn't have time, and she does have a busy schedule.) I'm very lucky to have her on my side, she is like a mother to me more than my own. I wish I can take her sickness away so it wont hold her back for anything. I have gotten check in the pass year and came out fine and yes I will keep getting check .Its something i will have to do for the rest of my life cause of it runing in my family.

It's hard when you think someone you love should be doing something differently than they are, but it's wonderful that you have such a close relationship. I hope you continue to read and post here.
