Default Dry eyes and Punctual Plugs

Hey everyone, just wanted to let everybody know that these permanent eyes plugs that i had put in have really been a Godsend.. The plugs and the Restasis have really worked well so far.. Every now and then if i am in conditions that would normally dry your eyes, such as fans or too much reading, i will have some problems. But nothing like before i had the plugs put in. And my blisters are finally gone. The Lupus and Sjogrens together were really doing a number on me for awhile. So i'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this continues to work.

Might be a dumb question but what do the eye plugs do?

Hey all. Sorry it took so long to get back .. my oldest daughter who is pregnant had some plumbing problems and i had to go calm her down.LOL. Anyway as most know i have had a horrible time with my eyes. Chronic dry eye so bad that i formed blisters around my eyes on the inside. My doctor actually said i had the worst case he had ever seen. The sjogrens keeps one from making enough tears and the quality of the tear is not good. He said i had almost no tear film over my eyes which would cause scarring quickly if we didn't do something.. So he suggested the Plugs and Restasis.. He said alot of doctors will tell you that the Restasis will not work with the plugs but it was totally different in everybody and he wanted to try both with me.. he said the plugs would keep what tears i do make backed up in my eyes longer, hence keeping them from drying out. And he told me the Restasis would take a little while to kick in,but that they would help me make more tears. But i think it all worked really quickly.. There was no pain what so ever when he put the plugs in and you dont have to have anything to numb your eyes or anything. I was truly amazed and it took only a few minutes.. He also said if bottom plugs dont seem to do much good that they would plug the top ducts also but i didn't have to do that. These are working great and my vision is so much clearer now that i form a tear film. I have a good friend who suffers from Sjogrens and she is going to ask for plugs now.. Terri i really feel for you. When your eyes hurt and burn from being so dry it just makes you feel bad all over.. plus the blurriness drives you crazy. My doctor said most all Medical insurances will pay for the plugs I assumed my vision insurance would be the one that would take care of it, but all of my eye problems fall under the medical insurance. Anyway i would highly recommend anyone trying them.. He said if they didn't work or i needed them out for some reason, he could take them right back out.. I dont feel them at all and i dont have to take any precautions with them. I am really happy with them.

Well i'm pleased they've worked and chuffed you up because you was suffering before they was done.

With my eyes i have the irritation and all the symptoms but the ducts are'nt to bad they'v scored 6/10 but if i come to read or concentrate now, that's up the wall in no time but the sjogren's going nuts internally the specialist said and christ dow i know it.

You takecare mate and you sound abit happier than you have been. xxx

I am so glad to hear that your doctor was willing to think outside of the box and use the plugs and Restasis on you. I am even more happy to hear that they are working for you. It always makes me happy to hear good news and to know that someone is getting relief from their symptoms.

    Peace and Blessings
