Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has trouble with swollen lymph nodes under their arms? I noticed one under one arm Thursday evening and by Friday morning, I had one other the other arm. They hurt. Warm compresses are helping the discomfort, but they aren't going away. My husband and my mother are bugging me to go to the doctor. I dislike going immensely because I am seen at the Naval hospital. It is so frustrating to go there. I have been more tired than usual, but I don't know. I have to be pretty sick to go to the Naval hospital. Maybe I am just fighting a virus or something?
Thanks for the help.

It may or may not be something going along with Lupus but either way it means an infection is present and you need to see a doctor. I know that is not what you want to hear but if you leave it alone you will become more ill because A) it will start your immune system fighting harder which means a bigger flare or B) if you are on immune suppressant meds it will allow you to get even sicker.

Back a bag and a snack and head on out! Keep us posted!!

Hi busymom3,

Myself personally i never suffered with lymph nodes but my husband does and he's been and seen a specialist with his because they come on his legs and 2yrs ago i spotted one forming from his armpit going onto his shoulder blade, he took no notice at first but after a month it did enlarge and when he saw the specialist he said pointless removing it because they form again, they form through fluid and weight gain.

You do need to see a doctor like tgal said because having Lupus or any autoimmune disease is totally different to someone not having it because of infection forming and if your immune system starts fighting against itself you could face more trouble.

I'm like tgal on this one phone your doctor and see him straight away, when things happen out the unusual we can't afford to let it by pass us because of what else could happen.

Wishing you all the best Terri xxx

Thank you for your replies. I have agreed to call if they aren't gone in one week. It may be my imagination, but I think they are smaller today. My Raynauds is kicking. Probably the worst I have ever had on my feet. That is what I get for going barefoot in the house. In my defense, it is May for crying out loud. My feet want to be free! =) I will call Thursday if they are not gone. I just hate going because I never see "my doctor". I see whomever has an opening and it is never the same person twice. They don't know my history. They won't know anything at all, and it is so frustrating. I won't have any trouble getting an appointment because a lump near the breast gets immediate attention. Well, I have run down my rabbit trail. Thanks for the advice. I will let you know what they say if I go in.

Your welcome to our replys and that's what we're here for to through our knowledge at one another.

Well it's your body but if they're not gone in a week i do highly suggest seeing your Doctor. I've got Raynauds like yourself i've got it around my toes at the moment and i don't know if you have break outs on top of your feet where fluid runs out and it itches, mine went bad last year and my dermo gave me steriod plaster's to add and they cleared it within a week, if you like me your feet are freezing and it's summer here plus i'm wearing socks but walking bare footed won't help one bit even though it's may, i'd love just to walk in my shoes without socks attached.

It's terrible when you have to keep explaining your history with some doctor's that's because they're just to idol to read abit before hand.

Please keep we updated and i wish you all the best either way.

Well, I went to the doctor so I thought that I should update you. My doctor told me that they were nothing to worry about and she was more concerned that I haven't had a pap since 2008. She kept bringing it up. Long story, but I don't need one, and I couldn't convince her of that. So for 20 minutes I had to keep bringing her off the "paps are important for my overall health" and discuss the issues that I am having now. She finally conceeded and did a blood cell count and a thyroid test. That, my friends, is why I avoid the doctor at all costs. I think that may have been the final straw and I am going to jump throught the hoops and try to change my PCM. Oh, military health. Gotta love it.

Well glad that you went and I am sorry it didn't go well. I agree maybe now is the time to start looking into changing docs. I do wonder, however, why you say you don't need a pap?

Well, I have had a lot of pain in my hip area and mainly at my symphis pubic junction. I was seen by 4 different doctors who all did pap smears and various tests. For whatever reason, this is not in my medical record. She is convinced that I didn't have a pap at all during the multitude of tests. I don't know. Maybe I didn't. She did show one is 2008, so it isn't like I haven't had one in years and years. It just bothers me that that was the focus today. I am there for swollen nodes under my arms and she wants to talk about a pap smear. It is actually very disheartning because I still suffer from the pain and no one can give me a reason. Anyway, it seems every time I go in there they just want me to have a pap. It is so frustrating. It really isn't at the top of my priority. If I have to subject myself to that right now, I may cry. After talking to a couple of other ladies who have recently been seen in the same facility for different reasons, I am definitely moving. She did prescribe me prenatals today. It is kind of funny. All I can do shrug.

Oh I completely understand how upset you must be! It is horrible when they don't listen and they don't help you! When you get to a better place you need to have a pap though. Cervical cancer is almost 100% curable if it is caught early so all women should have them yearly.

So much for me PSA! Now go find a new doc that will LISTEN

Just a thought...there are lymph nodes all over your body, including your groin area. Perhaps she wanted a PAP to see what those nodes look like - you can't see them from the outside but a PAP would show if they were also enlarged...Also, I have had swollen lymph nodes in my lungs and while it turned out to be AI related for me, the first thing that all the doctors wanted to rule out was lymphoma. I have an uncle that was just diagnosed with the most aggressive and rarest form of lymphoma last week (thank God it was an extremely fast catch b/c he gets bloodwork drawn every 3 months). I'm not at all suggesting you may have that, in fact most people I know with swollen lymph nodes are just like Terri's husband and your doctor already told you yours aren't a concern, but I do think you should be aware of why it's important that you did go and get yourself checked out. Pat yourself on the back for going and getting checked out.

Lovely to hear you got checked out and update we, when your doctor is'nt concerned about them she may know they are the ones like my hubby had, all he could do was to constantley wait for them to go back down but i'm so sorry they're stressing you out because of hurting.

I think your getting stressed with your Doctor as you sound like you don't like going which a good many people don't it's only like the (Dentist) situation but she must be wanting to do it to get your results all up to date and also doing a thyroid test because that can come in with Lupus also, she may just be thinking of your well being.

At the end of the day if your not satisfied it's for you to get another Doctor but i will admit my GP is totally the same ontop of thing's and give me a doctor like that, then someone who can't be bothered but i do wish you all the best with those lmyph nodes going down.

Hi guys, thanks so much for all your replies. I guess I am pretty sensitive to going to the doctor. I haven't had the best experiences. I ended up coming down with a lovely strep infection and wound up in the ER. I was fine after a few days and some antibiotics. coming back here reminded me that I had some blood work done. I haven't heard about the results. I guess I should call. No news is good news, right? I am sure it is all fine. Thank you so much for all your concern. I am so thankful that I have health insurance and try not to complain too much, but military medicine is quite the beast and gets me down sometimes. I hope you all are feeling well!
