I'm in my mid30s and have been feeling bad for 10 months this time. Sometime I go for months feeling good but this has been a long10 months. I have had blood work done four times in the last 6 months. My Ana is positive 1.320 but all other results are OK. Two rhumies said its not Lupus but both wanted to start Plaquinil which I have refused. I heard there isn't a definite test for lupus, is this true?

Hello LilMama and welcome to WHL! Sorry to hear that you're having a hard time of it. No, there is no definitive test for Lupus. It is a cumulation of symptoms & tests. There are some stickies at the top of all the boards which I'm sure can help answer a lot of questions for you as well as most posts/members on here. Do you know what other blood work they have done? Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who can go for quite a time w/out a definitive diagnosis.
May I ask why you have refused the Plaquenil? My doctor, if I remember correctly, put me on it before I got my "official" diagnosis of Lupus. We knew something was going on - I was pretty sure it was Lupus - but she wasn't.
Sorry that you have to be here, but glad that you found us!

hi, and welcome.
plaquenil can be used for more problems than just lupus.
at the doses we usually take the side effects are minimal or none.
i suggest a rethink, try the medication, until yoiu know more about what is wrong with you.

Welcome to our family of the WHL and lovely to have you with us, there's so many threads which will help you where the condition is concerned.

I'm on plaquenil which they want to start you on and if they're saying you don't have Lupus, then you may have an autoimmune disease, that's making you ill.
With the blood tests they've done Lupus should have showed but it's also terrible for making your blood fluctuate so they can't always get a proper diagnosis, my rheumo diagnosed me with things and i asked if i actually had the Lupus like you want to know, no one would step forward so when i saw my dermatologist who refered me on to rheumo after saying i had raynauds, i told him the situation that no one would step forward, I said you can see my bloods and results do i have Lupus and he stepped for and told me i had.
To this day i don't think the rheumo or blood specialist wanted to comit themselves because i'm a manic-depressive with an history behind me.

Don't give in though you need to push with some of these specialist's because some member's have Ace Doctor's and some are'nt so good and i'm in that majority.

Hugs Terri xxx
