My face has been turning bright red every night for days. I dont feel sick to my stomach but I keep feeling like Im going to throw up. Im still havin hot flashes like crazy, keep getting hot and sweaty. I dont know if I've caught a bug or something but I have a weird rash on my arm, keep getting headaches, and have a cough. I dont know which doctor to be calling in the next few days if all this doesnt clear up. Lupus or just sick?

Yes. But call your rheumy for conformation.

I feel so sick today and I dont know why =( Im not one who is very effected by the sun usually but even sitting in our living room today with all the windows I felt like crap. I kept covering myself with a blanket even though I was burning up to try to make myself feel better. I have never noticed the sun making me feel bad just by itself but today it sure is. What am I supposed to do, hide in the dark til I feel better or the sun goes down? I cant keep covering up, I've been having terrible hot flashes the past few days again. I stayed home today originally because my stomach hurt, and I just gathered more problems as my day went on. Headache, dizzy, lightheaded, sweating, nauseous. WHAT THE HECK? cant a girl get a break...

Hi Ritz,
It's really not fair for someone your age to be going through this.
I know that we can blame a lot on Lupus, but this really sounds hormonal. You sound like me, and I'm going through menopause.
Do you have a gynecologist? I think that I would ask the doc to rule out any hormone imbalances.
Take care, sweetie.

HI Ritz - I have felt exactly like you describe. I am older than you 35 but this has happened to me in the last couple of years (on and off) but I have no other signs of being near menopause. I think you need to check with your doc. I would suggest rheumy first I guess if they are accessible...(I am new to diagnosis and have only gone to him when he tells me to set an appointment). I have to admit recently, I wondered if it was hormonal related too so that is a good question.

Truthfully though the feeling in reaction to the sunlight was probably what finally prompted my GP that there may be somethign auto-immune at work. I have had "sun allergy" for about 10 years but when I asking my doc about this "sun sickness" that I felt when she decided to rule a few things (aka lupus) out. So my gut is it is related to lupus but that doesn't mean you have to put up with it.

I hope you feel better soon, hugs.

Do you think its from the steroids? It all started with them. I would have thought my body would have called down though since I've been on them for almost 2 months now. I have all these little rashes popping up. One is starting to go away though. They are so red. I am tired and feel like I want to puke. I'm sick of being told well, "your blood work looks better, you shoud be feeling better" because I DONT. My meds or something else is still making me sick. I dont feel like myself. Do you think my hormones could be messed up? I cant believe I could have hormone problems at 18. Then again I guess I could believe I have anything at this point....lol

I agree with Marla. Too often we are used to blaming everything on the Lupus or the Lupus drugs and we overlook that it could be from something non related. I think you need to go see your gynecologist and have him/her check you out just to be on the safe side

I don't have one. I go to my rheumy this week again though.

Then, young lady, it is high time you did have a gyno! I made sure that my girls got to know one at around 16 or 17. You need to have that all-important first check-up, first breast exam and first pap smear! This is especially important with you getting ready to go off to college. I know that it's something that girls don't want to think about and try to put off, but now is the time to be pro-active about your "female" health.
Get yourself an appointment and add another "-ologist" to your list.
Just me, being a pushy old hen because I care.

Since I dont have another car still my mom takes me to all my appointments and as stupid as it might sound I dont want to ask her to take me to that kind of appointment. I called my rheumy today even though I go in a few days and all she had to say was that she was giving me Prilosec for my stomach. I wish she had something useful to say about about getting so hot all the time. If I make it a whole day at school tomorrow the sweating is going to be embarrassing.

I'm a stressed out mess. I just know that I'm going to make myself really sick again. I already dont deal with stress well and with everything thats been going on the past few days its just getting worse. I have so much going on and no time or energy for anything. Everyone is driving me soo crazy and now I found out that we were apparently doing some under the table kind of stuff with my AP tests and the cat got out of the bag because I didnt know that it was supposed to be a secret so now I have to take them next week. Im stressing really bad Im not ready...

I am sorry you are so stressed.

I wanted to comment actually on the gyno stuff. I don't know how things work entirely in the US, but in Canada, my GP (family doctor) can also do all that regular gyno check up stuff...ie, I have my physicals, breast exams, pap smears wtih here. Could you call your family doc and make an appointment? That wouldn't be as "embarassing to ask you mom to take you too.

Even more importantly though, I need you to understand that having a gyno doesn't mean you are admitting to being sexually active or anything. They are just a specialist who deal with another part of your body. You should not be embarrassed of wanting to know if your hormone levels are normal. Good luck with everything.
