Crohns can be very very painful. I know 2 people who had very bad cases. Most of the other cases I heard of weren't so severe. I remember a good friend from college had it and it was hard for her. That disease can be dangerous for dehydration and weight loss. Crohns was the first disease they tested me for back in college when I was in my late teens. At that time they said no it's IBS. Now they have changed the definition of digestive diseases due to an availability of more information and recognize that IBS, Ulcertive Colitis & Crohns are all a part of a family of digestive diseases called IBDs (Irritable Bowel Diseases). I have seen many people on this board say they have IBS or UC & Lupus and since IBS and UC are related to Crohns I would guess that this combination would also be possible and that some people on here would have it too.

Kim I'm sorry. My son has Chrons and Ulcerative colitis. He also has flares and has been hospitalized because of it. Once the desease is under cotrol its not too bad, its just a matter of taking medication. Good luck!

Crohn's is AI. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001295

by the way, I just want to say right here that there is no "Artificial Intelligence" in "Auto-Immune"... It just "Attacks I"...

Hey Kim,

Sad to say but the research is now showing that people with one auto immune disease are more susceptible to having others. So many of them overlap with symptoms so there is often multiple AI diseases at once. I am so sorry about what is happening to your daughter but hopefully it will be something much easier that can be taken care of easily.

Hi Kim,
I hope that the docs figure out what is going on with Sarah very quickly.
I do have something to tell you that might give you some hope.
We went through the same thing with Meghan when she was in High School. The doc was just sure that she had Crohn's.
She had a colonoscopy, and it turned out that she had a kink in her colon. Doing the colonoscopy straightened out the kink, and solved the problem!
I do so hope that Sarah's problem turns out to be something easy like this!
Hugs,
Marla
