So I went to my the another appointment at another center for a second opinion. Basically he told me he wouldn't touch me with a ten foot pole. Given my condition I need to avoid surgery at all cost. Theres so much damage that he feels a Core Decompression will not help, i'm looking at total replacement, which he said can kill me. Also, they wont' do it becuase I'm too young WT??? I mean if thats going to help my pain, why not at least consider it? Anyway he said I should try therapy three times a week to strenghthen my muscles. I cant afford therapy, I'm seeing 7 differenct specialist at 20 bucks a pop plus all my medications. He said If I want to go through with the CoreDecompression to make sure my surgeon puts a stint ?SP? to avoid blood clots going to my lungs, which again he said would "kill" me. I was petrified by the time I walked out of his office I had tears streaming down my face. Glad hubby took the day off to go with me, I have been blessed with a wonderfull hubby, so atleast I have that going for me.

Im feeling so overwelmend with everything that has happened to me in the past 8 months it feels surreal to me. Im still battling my Lupus and feel like CRAP most days.

I'm so sorry to hear how frustrating that appointment was. I'm glad you had your husband with you. I can't offer you any advice as I don't really understand what the AVN surgery is but I will say some prayers for you that you do find an answer to your problem soon. (((hugs)))

I am so sorry that the appointment didn't go well and that the doctor didn't want to do the Core Decompression. I wish these doctors understood how hard their words hit and would take a little time to learn some bedside manner! Did you speak to him about other options? Although I am no expert on this I do know that there are 3 or 4 surgical options when one has AN. Please know that we are here for you whenever you need to vent. I am glad you have a supportive husband who is there with you.

Thanks Ladies, I sooo love this site ; )
I didn't get the chance to ask any questions as I feel he was more of a rush than anything else. I don't want that type of doctor operating on me anyway! I wish these doctors would come and read on this site and learn how to be a little more understanding and sentivite. is this too much to ask?
I'm going back to the first doctor who gave me three hours of his time and didn't seem like he was rushing much.

On another note, man, my brain FARTS are kicking my butt lately, for the life of me I couldn't remember my pin number 10 seconds after punching it in. I cant seem to remember jack lately even convo's I ve had a few minutes before, any suggestions on how to make that better?

Sorry to hear about this failed appt. I wish the doctor could have said things a bit nicer, but I think in that 10yrs + of schooling they lose a bit of compassion along the way... thats what were here for then if he cant give it!!
xoxoxo Hope you find someone who will listen to you and make you feel cared for- you deserve it and thank God for your husband. God bless the two of you

Hi Linda,
Please go to the AVN support group that I told you about before. I know it costs $20 to sign up (I'm so thankful that we have Conrad here at WHL), but I know that Marie will waive the fee if you contact her. There are some real experts about AVN there, especially Marie. She helped me a lot when I was dealing with orthopedic surgeons. They can be more pig-headed than rheumys.
I was told that I'm too young for replacement surgery, too - and I'm now 53. Those artificial joints don't always last more than 10 years before needing to be readjusted or replaced. However, I've seen younger people mention that they have found surgeons who would do it, and they are using new equipment that can last a lot longer.
As for the blood clots, I would keep looking for an ortho who is willing to explain more about it to you and will carefully go over the risks with you.
Again - check with Marie at the AVN site about this.
Take care of yourself!
Hugs,
Marla

Thanks Marla, I've already joined the group! Theres a wealth of information on that site and yes Marie is an encyclopedia when it comes to AVN lol.
The first sergeon I saw wants to talk to my other docs especially my hemotologist so they can built a plan together, lets see what happens after they talk.
thansk again and take care, Mari.

I am just going to make a really short post "uggggg Doctors"! They simply have no clue. Good job at being your own advocate! That is how you do it!
