Hey all...I hope everyone is having a great Monday!! I just have a quick question. In order to apply for disability, does my rheumy have to say that I am unable to work? I'm only asking because my aunt keeps telling me I should apply but I don't know if I should because my rheumy hasn't really said that I couldn't work..even though I know that I physically probably couldn't do my job as a lab tech because I'm required to stand alot and I would be working around a lot of germs! So what should I do? I don't wanna start this process only to find out that it was a waste of time because my dr didn't say I shouldn't work? Thanks in advance...Phoebe

You only need one physician to say that you are unable to work, it can either be a general practitioner or a specialist, and you can choose which one. You can always try to discuss it with him/her and see what happens.

In the UK you can claim dissability and still work. You get the paymet anyway to help with your living with an illness and doesnt effect any other government payments. But if you are so sick you can not work you get a higher rate.

In the US you have to be unable to do ANY kind of work. Be prepared, it is a LONG process. I applied in July and we are still fighting. Good luck!
