View Full Version : Happy New Year - I'm Baaack!

Hi WHL Family,
We got home from Texas yesterday. I've been recuperating and re-stocking the refrigerator. It was so empty, I gave it a good cleaning before I went to the commissary. How's that for a tired Lupie?
Lucky for me, my masseuse's office called and changed my Friday appointment to today. That massage sure felt good!
We had a great, but stressful Holiday. All five of our kids, the significant others, three grandsons and three grand-dogs in one place can really be stressful. Marching the whole crowd into Penny's for the family picture was like herding cats.

Kyle, my 5 year old grandson, is a wild man. He tried to jump all of the stairs at Hillary's new house, falling and knocking down a framed picture. He wasn't hurt, but the glass in the frame was shattered and the heavy frame nicked the wood on the staircase. We took the frame to the hardware store and got the glass replaced. Jeff bought some wood putty and taught Steve some Home Repair 101.
Ryan was 1 year old on Jan. 1. He's a very busy little boy. His other grandfather got him a Buzz Lightyear four wheeler for Christmas. The little guy quickly figured out how to make it go! He makes it move, then giggles. We got him a helmet for his birthday, so now he's quite the little rider.

I did a LOT of cooking in Hillary's new kitchen. They had lots of requests, so I spent a lot of my vacation cooking. When I could get out of the kitchen, we went to several of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio. We also went downtown to El Mercado so that I could buy authentic Tex-Mex decorations for the New Spouse Welcome that I'm in charge of.

The party with my former students was so much fun! I saw some that I hadn't seen in a long time. I am so very proud of them. Will is in his last year of pre-med and is waiting to hear from Med schools. Stephen has just returned from Afghanistan. Dolly, Magda, Kisa and Seth are all loving college. Andrew is a classical languages major and wants to be a Latin professor some day! There were over 25 young people who showed up!

The New Year's Eve party was great, as usual. For some reason, my voice was actually good that night, so I was having a blast singing with the Irish musicians. "Puff the Magic Dragon" after a few drinks is quite an experience!
The following evening, we went to the bar where Meg used to bar tend with Meg, Tyler and Tom. Meg dragged me up on the karaoke stage to sing with her. We sang "The Rose" and had so much fun!

It was a fun holiday, but I'm soo glad to get back to my nice, quiet life.
I hope that all of you are having a good start to the new year.

I needed a laugh just now and the image of herding cats definitely did it. I can just imagine the claw marks on all the halls in Penny's, lol. Can't wait to see your new pics on here or FB. And I am so glad to hear you had a good time with your family. It's funny how you can miss being with and in your big family when you are away from them for awhile but once you get back together and in all the noise and commotion the silence of everyday life sure does seem golden. Still, as tiring as that "vacation" sounds like it was, I know it was worth every second to get to be surrounded by such love like that. It's so wonderful to celebrate life with the ones we love most. And what an honor to you - 25 students - that speaks volumes of how honored and revered a teacher you are. I knew from your writings you are a good, caring teacher, but the presence of so many former students speaks to that in shouting voices. I am happy to hear you had a chance to see your little chickadees from years past. I often think of my little pre-schoolers and first-graders from years past and realize that they are now getting ready for sweet-sixteens and filling out applications for college. *gasp* I don't think they realize how much we remember them over the years b/c I know as a student I sure didn't.

Welcome home!

For all the chaos your holidays entailed, mine were the exact opposite. In bed on New Year's Eve at 10:30....gosh, I feel old!

My DH is NOT a planner and sometimes I tire of doing it all so I just threw in the towel and said maybe next year. Plus, the weather has been so miserable of late that a warm and toasty house has been most appealing to me.

May 2011 bring you much health and happiness (and some much needed silence--for a brief time anyway!).

For all of the stress that you mentioned, your Holiday sounded like a wonderful holiday movie that I would watch over and over again each season. Lots of family, love, laughter, and even a moment or two of chaos..A perfect Holiday :-)
I hope that you took lots of pictures to share with us (especially the successful "cat herding" picture - lol).
Welcome home and do get some rest.

Peace and Blessings

Hi SaySusie,
I'll get Jeff to download our snapshots soon, and the professional pics will be in later. Hillary will have to pick them up from Penny's and send them out to all of us.
I'm home and right back into the Spouse's Club activities. I just got back from New Student Orientation, signing up new spouses.
It is great to be back on the beautiful Monterey Bay.
Hugs to all,

Hi Linda,
I was telling my family all about you. Your description of Christmas in Australia was fascinating to all of them
Grandson David is very jealous that I have an Australian "pen-pal".

I am glad I have given your grandson sone enlightenment of what Australia is like. How old is he

David is 11, and was an avid fan of Steve Irwin. He wants to combine his interests in animal conservation and acting to become a host like Steve Irwin or Jack Hanna. His big dream is to attend college in Australia and work at the zoo that Steve founded.
