Thanks for all your kind words everyone. I AM HOME!! I only spent 3 days and 2 nights in hospital, the doctor said I could stay in more if I wanted because I was feeling so sick, but there is nothing like home. I slept for 3 hours when I got home this afternoon, the best sleep I have had for a few days.

I was going to say I am alive and kicking - but I am not kicking, or really moving. I cannot lift anythink bigger than 2Kg, so that is really going to be a challenge for me, but not at the moment as I am in so much pain (great pain meds though).

I am looking forward to getting back to normal in a couple of months, but for now I will just rest and chat to all my friends at WHL

Hi Everyone,

I spoke to Linda this morning (night where she is) and the doctor is trying to get her in for an emergency ultrasound. The doctor believes that there is something going on because she isn't getting any better and it has been two weeks. Hopefully they can figure it out soon so she can get better quickly

OK Guys .... please tell me that sometimes this is normal .... PLEASE!!!

I had a hysterectomy 4 weeks ago yesterday, by key hole. A week after the operation I had a 5cm blood clot (OUCH). I was put on two lots of antibiotics which helped heaps with the back pain. But I would have thought that after 4 weeks I should be starting to feel a bit better than what I am, I am still in pain. I am supposed to go back to work (teaching) in 12 days time, and I can't see that happening if I am still in pain. I have to take panadeine (has codiene in it) every 4/6 hours to cope with the pain. I have spoken to numerous women who range from "I wasn't in any pain when I came home from hospital" to "I was in pain for a few weeks".

Before you question and repremand me - I AM TAKING IT EASY - to the point that my muscles in my legs and arms are starting to atrophy (so that is proof I am taking it easy). I just want someone else to say "yeah - I was in pain for a few months!" So that is why I haven't been chatting and commenting on the many posts over the last month. I hope to be back to my old self VERY SOON!

Nonna
02-02-2011, 04:18 AM
I wish I could say I was in pain for months; but I wasn't, just weeks. However I had very bad reactions to another surgery. Back then they had to keep me in hospital for an extra week and 1/2. Linda, what do the doctors say; it seems they should be more concerned.

Also just want to say that we've missed you, but understand what you are going through.
Hugs, good thoughts and prayers are headed your way

Linda my friend,

Asking how other people reacted is like comparing apples to oranges. I would bet the other people you asked didn't have Lupus. That changes everything! Lupus messes with our body so badly and nothing goes smoothly. The parts of your body that should be helping it heal are most likely attacking it instead. I agree with Toni that the doctors should be a bit more concerned over how long this is taking.

Do NOT allow yourself to think badly of yourself because you haven't healed as quickly as others. You are doing the best that you can it is the stupid disease that is (once again) causing issues.

Yes i would call the doctor something isnt clearly right with you.I always thought with a blood clot they put you on herparin the warfarin? Or is this different? Its to break the clot down.To be on the safe side call your doctor you need more help i think. You are so brave.Just know you are missed and i hope you get better soon with no pain at all.Lots of love.Amanda.xxxx

I have seen the surgeon on a number of occasions, at the moment I have been put back on stronger pain killers, and I will be seeing him again on Tuesday. He did tell me that I have had a set back and reminded me that I did have major surgery. And as tgal reminded me, If I was younger, and not sick with Lupus, I would probably heal a lot quicker. I just thought that if I really look after myself and do all the right things, then I would get better quicker - DERR - Nothing ever goes the way I plan. I just wanted to hear someone say that they also took a long time to heal.

I popped into school yesterday for a little while just to say hi to the kids on their first day of the school year and to tell them when I would be back. I really want to be pain free so I can enjoy teaching again, and I am worried the doctor will tell me to take another week off work. I can't really hide the fact that I am not well because I have huge dark rings under my eyes. Anyway, I do not feel ready to go back to work at the moment and won't go back until I am ready, but I just want to be all fixed up

I know you have been doing all you can do on the resting side but I'm sure there's more the dr's can do to help you, loosing muscle tone can not be good for your recovery.

Sorry about not being around for the last few months. I thought I would give you an update on what is happening, so you would understand why I haven't felt like going online and chatting like I used to.

8 Weeks ago I had a hysterectomy. 6 - 7 weeks ago I developed a 5cm blood clot in my abdomen, was put on strong antibiotics for a week and was told it will take a while for my body to reabsorb the clot. I am still in quite a lot of pain, have been put on a restricted diet to make it easier for my gastro system, and have to take stong pain meds just to get through the day. I am going in for another ultra sound on Wednesday to see what is happening.

I am tired of all the pain. It hurts to cough (even pathetic little asthma coughs hurt), sneeze, walk, stand, GO TO THE TOILET, raise my voice to be heard in a classroom. I cannot stand to teach or walk around the classroom to help my students. Going on playground duty is difficult. The only way I know my bladder is full is because I am in pain. I cannot carry anything heavy, etc..... I am on so many pain meds, have huge black marks under my eyes (I have never had black rings under my eyes before). When I went to the make up counter to buy some concealer, the make up lady said that it looks like I am recovering from bruised eyes, all black and yellow.

I will be just glad when everything is back to normal (what ever normal means). Anyway, hopefully after the scan something more can be done to help me heal. Thank you to all my friends who have been checking up on me, sending me positive messages and praying for me. I have a feeling this is going to be a very long road to recovery.

What an ordeal.
I hope you can get back to normal sooner than later.
We are going to make sure, that Lauren is not going to make you laugh. lol
I know that the healing process takes longer when you have lupus.
When I had this little double surgery( carpal tunnel and the cubital tunnel in the elbow), it took three months before I could go back to work. Alot of pain and alot of PT.
Try to be patient and not push yourself.

Hey Linda, you're not alergic to, or intolerant of codeine, are you?...

I don't understand why they wouldn't have treated the clot a bit differently. Seems serious to me. My brother-in-law had one in his lung, and they had him in the hospital for over a week while they gave him some med (heparin??) to dissolve the clot. Maybe because of your having just had surgery? Have they checked your lupus anti-coagulants?...

Good to see you posting. Get better, hear?...

Ok everyone, this saga continues ..... and continues ...... boy I am so sick of this movie. Someone PLEASE change the channel to a fun movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had my ultrasound on Wednesday and was pleased to find out everything has healed, and the blood clot is reducing in size. The blood clot is sitting on my bowel, and the bowel didn't look quite right. So here I am thinking that great they found out why I am in so much pain, because there is something wrong with my bowel. So now I can get all fixed up and enjoy my pain free life (apart from joint pain which is nothing really compared with what I have to put up with now).

So feeling quite positive going to my GP tonight, knowing that there is a simple answer and a quick recovery.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though the blood clot is getting smaller, it is still aggrivating my bowels and abdomenal muscles, resulting in a lot of PAIN! and what is worse, I am still looking at many weeks, possibly a few months until I am relatively pain free. So after a huge protest by me, my doctor has FORCED me to take 2 weeks sick leave.

jmail .... I try not to take codeine because it causes constipation (OUCH). Also the blood clot is in my abdomen, not in my blood vessels, so blood thinners will not work. The body just reabsorbs it, and that is what is happening. There really is no treatment apart from waiting, and wating, and waiting, and doing blood work to see if there is any infections, then waiting and waiting and waiting again. Even after the blood clot has gone, my bowel has to start to heal. Apparently there is also scarring from the operation that is causing pain.

Grrr, huge disappointment all around, my grade 6 kids were so excited today because they have just finished 3 weeks of intensive chemistry theory, and are so excited that for the next few weeks they 'were' going to start doing heaps of experiments.

So there you go people, no quick healing for me. Just alot of waiting and doing what the doctors tell me.

jmail

Ow! Wishing you well, and continual prayers Linda... At least, like you say, it takes your mind of the joint pain... lolol - we're "sick" people, ain't we?... lolol

SandyR
03-04-2011, 07:35 AM
Oh no! You poor thing. From one end to the other you are just rolling the pain around. I feel for you. What I don't understand is - why aren't they doing surgery? A clot isn't anything to mess with and I thought surgery was the standard route to relief?
