View Full Version : Can we shoot for a Lupie Reunion?

09-17-2009, 04:31 PM
Hi guys,

i'm stiiting here responding to posts and wishing I could sit down and have a cup of whatever liquid doesn't make us sick with each other:laugh: And then I thought why not try to set up a Lupie Reunion. It's done all the time. We should try to set a date for next year so everyone has plan to save and plan ahead. And maybe we can all agree to meet somewhere convenient and fun for everyone. Right now Vegas comes to mind but anywhere else someone would like. Let me know what ya'll feel (that was the southern in me) LOL.

Take care my friends

oh ps i also have skype soo if any one ever fancied a video chat i would be up for that!

09-18-2009, 04:01 AM
That's something I think about alot. It would really be something to actually meet people here face to face. If it could be done, I would definitely take part in it. I'll be interested in hearing other peoples responses to your Idea Brenda.

09-18-2009, 05:08 PM
Actually Tiger the whole everyone do a reunion in their region and then have a video link conference sounds cool too. Although I would love to visit Australia and England :tongue2:

09-19-2009, 11:36 AM
How about Las Vegas (when it's not 104 degrees)? Lots of things to do; great restaurants and the lodging can be inexpensive. Memorial Day weekend 2010?

I'd love to meet everyone in person, but would be pleased if we could get a live feed to the UK so we can "meet" at the same time........

What a wonderful idea!

09-20-2009, 05:08 AM
Well i say everyone just come to melbourne!!
Come in like March so there wont be bushfires and 45 degree weather though lol
I work at a hotel so you all will have somewhere to stay lol

09-20-2009, 07:27 AM
That actually sounds pretty cool get us a group discount :tongue2: Well I saw I post for Vegas and several for Australia that would mean our UK friends could go to. I'm okay with Australia since we have plenty of time to save up for it. Do all the US folks like Australia or would rather stay stateside?

I love the Australia idea tho I could hold a koala :cute:

09-20-2009, 06:05 PM
Okay so Sandy and I are up for Australia although I'm pretty sure if anyone else wants stateside she would be willing to go as I would also. I would like to gauge real interest. Who would like to do a reunion at least state side for affordability and then do a internet link to our overseas friends? Let me know please. Let's not think of how we feel now let's think of how we want to feel for the reunion :cute: Luv ya'll

09-20-2009, 08:21 PM
i would love to come to melbourne and it would be good if we could get everyone to come to australia march would be good for me, if not i would have to look into how much it would cost to come to usa vegas sounds nice but depends on cost does anyone know anywhere between all the countries that we could meet so everyone could come some where in the middle just a thought. kim l

09-20-2009, 11:06 PM
I think this would be great !!! I would also love to meet the great people on this board face to face. As I was reading your post my mind started thinking of places / venues we could go ... and I thought..... hmmm, it really needs to be indoors for the most part ... Then I got to the end of your post where you mention Las Vegas and I said PERFECT !!!

What a great place for us to meet and allot of indoor fun.

I used to live in Las Vegas so it would be a blast!

Count me in !!

P.S.... I had only read the page 1 replies .. now that I read more on page 2 I would just offer that perhaps we should stay stateside for this first reunion. Sorry, I can't make it to Australia but if that's what everyone else wants to do, don't change just for me.

Personally I would like to see us do this annually .. and on special occasions go oversees. Perhaps 4 years here in the US and then on the 5th annual we go to Australia. Just my thoughts.

09-21-2009, 03:45 PM
B - I would love to go to Australia, but I would need a little while to save money for that to do it the way I would want (koala holding included). Vegas would be cool. Skype would allow us to all meet up throughout and since you never know the time & are up around the clock when you are in Vegas, the time zones wouldn't be an issue. I think the 5 year idea is a great one too, but to be fair, do we have more members in the US or abroad?

09-21-2009, 03:47 PM
oh, and I definately would go anywhere in or out of the US since the passport is good another 9 years or so. in the US would just be easier for me to afford. but out of the US is entirely possible with enough notice.

09-21-2009, 04:28 PM
K I like the idea of each continent doing a reunion and getting together with skype. So US,UK,and Australia. Think right now Vegas is the front runner we should all pick a date everyone agrees on and look into renting a computer lab to meet up on skype or laptop area. Looks like March seems to be a ggod point too. So lets shoot for March 19 or the 26th they are both Fridays. Let me know. I hope we can meet each other soon. I have also used skype and its awesome to hear each other maybe we can look into a web cam so we can see each other too.

yer all sounds fab think each country to begin with link up is best!! sooo if any brits can think of places that would be best i'm guessing some where in the middle would be best but if peeps give me ideas i'm up for looking in to itand do it same dat asus one don't know time difference between here and las vagas but try and linkit up some how i know between here and florida is 5 hours sooo fingers crossed we can pull this off x

09-22-2009, 11:35 AM
WOW! Sounds absolutely wonderful!! Las Vegas is only 2 1/2 hours from me, so that would be easy.
However, our family is so global that a physical reunion might be impossible for some members, so the "country" reunion or even individual "states" reunion with webcam would be great. I love the idea of a webcam reunion (like businesses that have web conferences). That could be very do-able.
I would really love to see all of you and be able to laugh and joke with each of you. We could agree to have our favorite drinks handy to toast ourselves, do show and tell with our pets; so many possiblities!!! What a wonderful idea

Peace and Blessings

09-22-2009, 05:43 PM
oy my gosh....a webcam reunion would be so much fun....yes, we could share stories and laughter while enjoying our favorite snacks and cocktails....i would even participate from outside by a camp fire....we could all enjoy the serenity of the roaring fire. oh what a special day that could be,

09-22-2009, 09:38 PM
hi everyone maybe we should make this a once a year annual reunion maybe aweekend for all the countries everyone from each country pick a spot and meet and then maybe every 3 years this would give us time to save we pick another country where we all meet like australia or england or canada or maybe a cruise somewhere and the yearly reunion we video link to each other it would give us something to strive for and help us fight this disease especially when where depressed it could be the pick me up we all need you could have the first 3 year event in las vegas next year and we all agree on a date to video link together we australians could meet in melbourne and the uk people could meet in england or scotland for our first yearly reunion just a thought it excites me and gives me hope just thinking about meeting you all just a thought my friends hugs kim l

09-23-2009, 02:37 AM
I'm glad I started this thread, its great to see there is so much interest. :cute:

09-23-2009, 09:34 PM
I'm also up for Las Vegas in March. I would love to go to Australia, but we want to save for going to Rome first!
I vote for the weekend of March 20 - 21. Jeff will be on Spring break and could come with me. He's a computer engineer, and could probably help a lot with those skype meet-ups for those in other countries. I can always come by myself if another date is chosen, and leave him to his studying.
Las Vegas is very good about setting up meetings and computer access, so I think that its a great choice! Besides, I'll take any excuse to get back to Caesar's Palace!

09-24-2009, 02:29 AM
Outstanding seems like Vegas wins the vote!!! YAY!!! :fam21: I also like the weekend of the March 19th-21st. I think everyone should start shooting for that and as it gets closer start planning etc... I too loved Caesar's palace had an awesome time there.

09-24-2009, 04:28 PM
OK guys,
Somebody will need to jump on this for setting it up - determine a place to stay (I do love Caesar's, but it might be a bit too pricey, since the AF was paying the time we stayed there), reserve a block of rooms, see if they will provide a meeting room with computer access, etc. If it costs too much to use their equipment, I happen to own a computer/digital projector set-up that is very portable. All we would need is a screen or even a blank wall.
I was also wondering whether any medical types would volunteer to come speak to our "convention". We couldn't afford to pay an honorarium, but we could all chip in to pay for the speaker's room. Does anyone know a great rheumy who is associated with a university, and might that university be willing to sponsor our "convention", and send the doc for free?
For that matter, might the makers of MTX, or other drugs that we Lupies take regularly, be willing to help sponsor the shindig and send some reps to talk about the meds that we take and the new ones that are possibly coming out soon? What about the folks doing that great research that we were all discussing a while back? I'm just thinking out loud here.
These are just a few of the "nuts and bolts" things that would need to be done, and done soon, since I'm sure that such things need to be reserved far in advance in Vegas. Do we have any members who live in or near Vegas who could give some local advice? I would jump in on this, but I'm still a bit frazzled from the big move. I'm willing to help where I can. Oh yes, we would also need to make sure that wherever we stay and meet has plenty of handicapped access, too. There are places in Vegas that rent electric carts (I call them put puts). Perhaps the hotel could arrange to have several available - I know that I would appreciate one.
OK everyone, now that I've got you thinking, who wants to take charge?

09-24-2009, 05:33 PM
hi everyone goddluck for vegas wish i could come but just not enough time to save but for the aussies it would be good if we could meet in melbourne i could manage to save for that march would be great and video link not sure how to do this monique you might be able to arrange this there maybe some newzealanders on the site who could come to it would be great lets talk. kim l

09-24-2009, 09:55 PM
When I worked for a home decor company, we had a twice annual "market" in Vegas. We stayed at the Palace Station (same place OJ was at when he robbed the guy selling OJ memorabilia). Anywho, you can get a room (decent filtration system that keeps cigarette smoke out of the rooms) for a whopping 35 bucks a night. Granted, it's not on the strip, but that's what they make taxi's for! The rooms are clean and it fits the budget (and leaves me more money for poker slots).

DH turns the big 5-0 on 3/20 and I'd like to have something special planned for him, so don't know if that's the best weekend for me to go to Vegas, but we'll figure it out ;). I would love to meet all my cyber friends!!!!

09-24-2009, 10:03 PM
Oh, and an evening with the lupies at Cirque de Soleil in Vegas would absolutely thrill me!

I earned (won) a trip to Orlando, Florida and took my daughter to a performance of Cirque de Soleil. It was magnificent! I prefer the show I saw in Sacra-tomato (my first), but was enthralled by the beauty and grace of the performers. I've heard that the show in Las Vegas is "da bomb" and would really like to see it. But, that's my want-not a necessity for meeting my lupie friends!

09-25-2009, 07:11 AM
This sounds like a fabulous idea!!!! I won't be able to go, because after my last disastrous trip, I've quit traveling, and my birthday is the 20th of March anyway, but I will be glued to my computer that weekend, waiting to hear about all the stories and see all the pics from the gatherings. Vegas is such a great place and I know you will have an amazing time!!!!

I've participated in gatherings with other online friends many times, both in the USA and in the UK, and they were absolutely the best trips I've ever, ever, taken!

09-25-2009, 07:55 AM
Oh what a fab idea!!

Il just hop onto my private jet and fly over....

Seriously i wish there was some sort of funding so us UKs and the ozzies could join in....do you think our lupus area trusts would fund for it? haha nice idea!

09-28-2009, 01:41 PM
OMG OMG OMG!!!!!! I want this so bad!!!!! What a WONDERFUL thing to meet all of my LUPIE FRIENDS in PERSON!!!!!!!

Hey Amanda, im still working on that trip to ENGLAND!!!!!!

09-29-2009, 06:07 PM
Awesome responses, I'm so psyched. Needed to post Because you know you have a brain fog when you spend 5 minutes looking for a post that is on the first page  :)

10-05-2009, 11:57 AM
Hiya, been pricing tickets and right now round trip air fare and hotel stay for 3 nights and 4 days (3-20 to 3-23-09) are as low as $450 for on the Strip Casinos such as the Stratoshpere or Ciricus Circus, may be cheaper as the date gets closer. Just wanted to give ya'll a heads up. :cute:

10-05-2009, 08:35 PM
The SouthPoint Hotel also has good room rates. It is a newer Hotel/Casino as is on the very south end of the strip. This hotel also has a bowling alley, a movie theater, and equestrian events.
March 19th is not good for me...but I would love to do a webcam for those who will be in Las Vegas!
I love that this has garnered so much interest.

Peace and Blessings

10-06-2009, 06:49 PM
i don't know if i could make vegas, but i could do a web cam on march 19....i will try to make the trip though, cause it would so great to meet each of you.
If we plan this, i will ask for travel money for my christmas presents...what a priceless gift.

10-06-2009, 09:50 PM
My DH's 50th birthday is that weekend, so I won't be available :( It's too bad because I'd love to meet everyone.

10-12-2009, 07:46 PM
Okay it looks like we have support just no good dates...like they do in Vegas if your first roll is a crapshoot try again :cute:. What other dates are good for the Majority?

sick n tired
10-13-2009, 12:27 AM
A get together would be great....sometimes it seems like I am the only one I know living in the Dfw area....So yes it would be fun to see some more people...

10-13-2009, 05:07 PM
Actually, I am not going to have any good dates until May or June:nah:
But, I am so close to Vegas that I could drive up, spend the day and drive back home. So, don't plan around me...whatever works for the group, I will make every effort to, at the very least, come up for the day!

Peace and Blessings

10-14-2009, 08:15 PM
Yes, Saysusie, you need to be there!
I can come without Jeff anytime except the first two weeks in January - I'll be in Little Rock meeting my new grandson, who's due on Jan. 2.
If I come without my sweetie, I would also be willing to share a room and costs with another (female) member.

That would be great Kim to have an Aussi meet up. I was actually in Sydney in January for a wedding, but I was not diagnosed with Lupus then. There is one more wedding that I need to go to in Sydney some time, but probably not for a few years yet. If anyone is in Perth, however, we could meet anytime.

Kim I have been reading quite a few of your posts, from a few years ago. You have so much inspiration to give to people. Keep it up, hopefully when things are not so good for you, you can remember how you have inspired so many people to keep going.

07-11-2010, 08:28 AM
So, I jut came accross this thread, lots of posts, is there any date-info yet, I am lazy and didn't want to read every post however I wish I could afford a trip to australia, I always wanted to see the land down under.

07-11-2010, 11:38 AM
This is and wonderfull idea but i could not afford any trip at all. Mt husband and i are both on retirement social security and he did not have a pension where he worked and we have to hold on to what we have left in the 401 and my retirement check is small but i sure would like to meet everyone in person. Love Bonita

07-11-2010, 02:58 PM
You should all come visit me in Macau!

07-11-2010, 08:50 PM
I can't afford to go anywhere either and I don't see anybody willing to fly to Canada! Hmph! lol

07-11-2010, 09:17 PM
I would!
I would LOVE to visit Canada. Australia is another country that is on my bucket list.
However, our next big adventure will be to Rome, Italy when Jeff graduates with that PHD.

In answer to the question, the whole thing got dropped and no one ever met up. I wish that we could. I think that Las Vegas would be a hoot for several of us.

07-12-2010, 06:59 AM
There was some talk of doing a Skype meeting but that got lost in the wind too. I thought that was a great idea for those of us who can't afford a big trip. Of course, I don't have skype...
