View Full Version : 2nd Opinion

I decided a couple of days ago that I want to go for a second opinion before taking all those horrible, terrible harsh drugs. I don't doubt that I probably have some sort of inflammation, I just want to be doubly sure that the rheumy is right and it is caused by psoriatic arthritis. I would rather be secure in the diagnosis before taking life altering meds. So today I made a few phone calls and I have an appointment with a new rheumy for a 2nd opinion on the 2nd. They actually had an opening next week, but I know my boss would not be pleased if I took off with such short notice, even for a few hours. Also, I get paid on the 3rd and need to use this weeks paycheck for rent. Sucks being so tightly budgeted but all these doctor appointments are blowing my budget out of the water. :grumpy: So the 3rd it is!

congrats on being proactive and doing what is the best for you. So glad you were able to get into the dr. so quickly....often it can take months to get into rheumies.
i know what you mean about lupus blowing the budget....all of my extra money now goes toward my health care.

I was pleasantly surprised that he could squeeze me in so quick. Thank God! That and he takes my insurance - BONUS! It really helps that I live in such a large metropolitan area that there is almost always a way to find a (relatively) local doctor to see very quickly. Extra bonus - this doc is about 5 minutes from where I live.
About the costs. It sucks! Thank God I have good insurance. I don't require a referral and I can go anywhere in or out of network that I chose. Also I thank God that I decided to change my co-pay structure this year. I now pay a little more per paycheck than last year (something like $4/check) but I pay about $10/visit less on the copay and that has really added up this year. My copays now are $25 a visit. Highway robbery when you go to the doc as much as we do! I still have to make an appointment with the eye doc about this stupid rash, but that copay has been holding me back on it. I need to figure out a back up plan because this is getting ridiculously expensive. If only my money tree would start blooming... :)

That is great you got in so quick...wow, that's rare!
I wish my money tree would bloom too. Lol. that's cute.
I have to pay specialists 50 bucks copay. I've gotta see a neuro next month, a GI doc, and an eye specialist. AND visit my pcp who gets 25 copay. Did you hear my hubby's wallet scream?!
