View Full Version : Sweating?

For the last 6 months, I have started to profusely sweat...regardless of what I'm wearing or what the temperature is. I have a constant fever, and chalked it up to that for a while. But now, things are just getting unbearable. I can't even wear makeup...if I can actually get it on, it slides right off my face within 5 minutes. I have pretty short hair, but it literally drips with sweat at least once a day. My rheumatologist says that it could be a side-effect of the Lupus...but it's driving me nuts.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does it get better? What can I do to avoid it? I'm desperate!!

Thanks,
Carrie

Hi Carrie,

I have the same problem. I run a mild fever almost all the time. With me, if I'm not doing physical activity and am indoors where it's cool, I rarely break a sweat. As soon as I exert myself though, I sweat profusely and it doesn't stop. I can sit in front of the A/C unit for an hour and I'll still be sweating. Never used to be that way. Spent a few years in the Army in desert environments, as well as living in Arizona for years, and I could always tolerate the heat really well. About a year before I got my diagnosis of SLE I had this problem start to affect me. It's been five years since the diagnosis, and I still have the problem. Never have recieved a real answer from any of Dr's or specialists as to why. Lupus is strange.

Rob,

I have the same problem with fever. I can always guarantee a sweat when I'm exerting myself, but lately, it comes even when I'm sitting at my computer!

Hi Carrie!!! Im along for the ride! I SWEAT SO BAD!!! I was so embarrased when i was at the store one day(actually, this happens almost EVERY time at the store!), It wasnt even THAT hot in the store but that doesnt matter of course to MY BODY! I was looking at some things and the sweat was just building and building, and when i sweat i also sweat on my eyebrows BAD! A sales lady came up to me to ask me if i needed any help and as im looking at her and she at me, Sweat is just pooring down the sides of my face and dripping from my eyebrows! Im telling her NO i dont need any help and as im telling her this im trying to keep up with wipeing the sweat from my brows and face! Shes just stareing at me like im nuts! She walked away quickly but apparently she thought i was "up to something" cuz i was followed ny her throughout the whole store while i shopped! I honestly think she thought i must be sweating while talking to her cuz i was planning a shopping spree WITHOUT paying! I hurried myself along with out getting anything cuz that was just making me sweat THAT MUCH MORE!!! I got to my car and ripped off my shirt down to my tank top and blasted the AC in my face! And mind you, it was snowing out! LOL:laugh:

Wow, a person can learn so much on here. Up until a little over a week ago when I started on Prednisone I would sweat like a pig all nite, I would be soaked when I woke up, I would have what seemed like hot flashes all day followed by a short intense feeling chilled. My temperature even when I am going through this always runs 1 degree on the cool side. Go figure. I whish I could give some answers, all I know is the prednisone did something. Is't this stuff fun:(

Scuba.....Sweat like a pig..I hadn't heard that is a spell...Roaring..

I get the day sweats, night sweats....I sweat like a piglet..and I have a low body temperature...96 - 97.My PJ's would be so wrinkly like they were wrung out and then shook....steamed in, sweat in wrinkles.

I mentioned this to my RheumBA and I got the stink eye...you are telling me why?

Carrie...have you tried a mineral makeup and stippled it in with a brush? Not dusting movement but dabs and pokes with the brush end...and keep it in your purse to stipple your face when you start to dew up, but don't add anymore makeup to the brush...

Be well..hugs,
Love,
Oluwa

Oluwa,

I have thought about getting Bare Minerals, but didn't want to shell out money for something that will just melt off my face. I will have to give that a try, though. Have a very important wedding this weekend, and I don't want to look like a melting candle!! LOL!!

Blessings,
Carrie

Ugh...I am sweating today more than I ever have. My hair is dripping wet, my glasses are sliding off my face, and my shirt looks like I'm in a wet t-shirt contest. This has GOT TO GIVE!!

Wow...I thought I was the only person who could sweat while outside in the snow!
Any time I go into my bank I KNOW I am going to sweat...I walk in dreading it and I just
want to get my money and get out..it makes me embarressed to talk to the tellers or anyone who may walk by and see me dripping sweat. I also sweat at night..I wake up covered in sweat even when I sleep with little clothes, the windows wide open, and fan on full blast! But I never have a fever.

I have asked my doctors about this and they both basicly said nothing..My Nephrologist said it could have been because of my Hyzaar and he lowered my dose and that seemed to help for awhile but I still sweat like a pig.

Even though it sucks for everyone to sweat this way I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one and that I'm not crazy!

Delphinia...I would definately recommend that you try bare minerals! I've always been a girl that LOVES make-up and that is the best cover up I have ever used & believe me I've tried MANY. Yes it is pretty expensive but it is completely worth every penny. It lasts for months because you don't need much it's good for your skin and if you have a butterfly rash like i do then you'll love how it gets covered. The only thing about it that you have to get used to is when you sweat there is a slight tingle or burning sensation if thats how you can explain it..it doesn't hurt or anything but the first time you wear it it might seem weird...And when you sweat it doesn't run off!! It WILL stay and you WILL think you look bad because you're sweating so much but once you look in the mirror you'll see it looks perfect! :) Good luck I hope you try it and it works for you!!

please don't ever be embarassed. we can't help what our body's doing to us. like the saying goes. Lupus-if you don't have it you just don't get it. I am finally getting over my self consciousness and do what ever I can to make myself feel better for my wife and little girl and for me. we in this community of lupies deserve that of ourselves.
God bless, Jim.

When I first started getting the night sweats, I kept thinking the water bed was leaking. So I switched sides with my husband the next night (not telling him of course LOLOL!) and the same thing happened! I was like jeepers what the heck? Thought it was hormones, especially when it started happening during the day too. After reading these posts I'm beginning to think it's that blasted companion Lupus again! I keep a change of clothes by my bed along with a towel to lay on. I also keep several extra shirts at work, there are days I blow thru three!!!
Well I just add stinky and sweaty to my list of "learn to cope" items.
Peace

I get horrible night sweats. I used to love sleeping all bundled up under tons of covers and never had a problem until about a year ago. Now there's no way. I just have to sleep wih only a sheet now and still wake up soaked a lot. Bought a thermometer to take me temp and it seems to fluctuate a lot between about 97-99 but never have had a real fever (at least not while I'm awake to take the temperature!). I hope it doesn't start happening in the day too. As it is I hate getting up in the middle of the night to change my clothes. And when I wake up I am so dehydrated that I get horribly nauseous, brushing my teeth almost makes me throw up. I really feel for you having to suffer this so much.

yep, i sweat too but then i get hot then cold then hot again. urg. my stomach is upset a lot too. even when i was younger, with undiagnosed lupus, i brush my teeth and start gagging, i smell food and start gagging. it's almost like morning sickness X10 years off and on...very frustrating. glad to know i'm not the only one...

Hi Carrie!
Yes...I too have sweats at night only when I am sleeping. But I also experience hot and extreme cold flashes especially the past week. Not sure if it was all the meds I was on from my surgery or if my body was just trying to adjust. Either way it was annoying...one minute socks and hoodie next tank and underwear.

Learning from my fellow lupsters by reading your posts has helped me more than any doctor. Hearing that you all have the same experiences is quite the comfort as well as validating! I always feel like I'm a hypochondriac. I hate that! Anyway, the sweating... does anyone else with lupus and fibromyalgia tend to have a baseline temp well below normal? There are times when I swear I'm burning up and my temp will actually read 96.4. I don't get it.
Also,,, and here's the part I'm most grateful to this page for...vomiting! Yes vomiting! I've been vomiting in the mornings since my twenties. The past 6 years os so it has gotten very bad. But it seems to cycle. Very strange. And of course the doctors have no explanation and don't seem tp realize the great feat it is to live a normal life when one has to start most days with vomiting. The real shame is people don't get much sympathy from me when they complain that they threw up.
Warm regards to all!

I sweat profusely and get very hot at night. It doesn't matter whether it's a cold or hot night out. There have been times when I thought I might spontaneously combust!

And I blamed it all on menopause, lol. But I have always ( even before menopause hit) been hotter than other people in the same room, my poor husband sits at home wearing a sweater, because I have all the windows open.
