For about six months now, I have had this problem. My stool is green 2-3 times a week and it is always runny. My doctor said the color depends on what I eat. That is not the case, first of all I have never had it untill six months ago and secondly it happends even if I don't eat anything green.
Does anybody else ever had this problem?

Hey ...

Stool can also appear green for physical reasons, and not just from what you've been eating. We think of a healthy stool (http://ibscrohns.about.com/od/dailylife/a/normalbm.htm) as being brown. Bile that is secreted in the first part of the small intestine is actually green. As stool is digested and passed through the large intestine it is turned into a darker brown color.

If stool is still green by the time it is excreted, it could mean that it went through the large intestine too fast to be changed in color. This is often called "rapid transit" or "decreased colonic transit time" and diarrhea that is green in color could be the result of medication, Celiac disease, Crohns..colitis...causing your food to pass through so quickly.

Hope this helps...

Thank you for your answer. If it passes through to fast, I would think that I loose weight, but I have been gaining. Maybe I just have to much bile.

Debbie..

Nutrients are absorbed by the small intestines...calories and etc, not the large...The large intestine absorbs the water. So, when you have watery, runny stools it is usually because it passes through the large intestines too fast....

If undigested food is found in the stool..then it has past through the stomach and/or small intestines too fast....which would result in weight lost. That's called the "dumping syndrome"...I had a touch of it two years ago....then I flipped now I have Gastroparesis.... delayed gastric emptying and take Reglan for it. Speeds up my stomach's contractions so my food doesn't rot in there.

Be well, keep well..

Angal...

Did you have H.Pylori? If so, did you do a stool sample test to ensure it was gone...or a stomach biopsy? Sometimes it takes two suitcases full of anitbiotics to get rid of it...

For me, it took only one round...

You know what's weird, I am mote bothered by the green color, than by the consistency. It is only soft ones in a while, but it is green quite often. My doc thinks it's nothing, but since it is not a normal color, I am worried.

I would ask your doctor to just take a stool sample for your own piece of mind. Just let him know that you are concerned and would really like to have a sample tested. At least, you will have some sort of comfort, and if there happens to be an issue then it can be addressed.

Yes I did have H.Pylori. It was awful! I have never been so sick in my life! It started in September i started not feeling good my appetite reduced went to the doctor he said its probably a flare up so he put me on prednisone and i was breaking out in hives from it. so i stopped taking it and he put me on another kind of steroid well that was way to strong for me and I got so so sick from it and because of the steroids me immune system stopped and the bacterium took over. mid October i had to go to the emergency room because i was so sick i was running a super high fever and i was down to 108 lbs  i was scary thin! i just absolutely could not eat so everyday i lived off of chocolate milk and a dry piece of toast (which i had to choke down) anyways i was severely dehydrated they ran a bunch of tests to find out my lupus wasn't active and they said i have an infection somewhere and probably an ulcer and sent me on my way (with out antibiotics) a few days later i was fed up with out being treated and went back into my doctor for the 3rd time and said I'm not leaving till you figure out how to get me better because i don't think i can last over the weekend before i have to be hospitalized and fed through a tube. so he finally gave me antibiotics and immediately i started feeling better. but it took me 6 whole months to figure out what was wrong and to get better. but having it has really screwed up my body chemistry, i developed lactose intolerance and now i have sever hypoglycemia. I had to go to a diabetes specialist because my normal doc thought i had a tumor on my pancreas but the specialist says that if you have a bacterial infection as sever as i did it really messes with your body chemistry and so I'm now on a low carb no sugar diet and i eat 8 times a day thanks to him i now feel better then i have ever before!
