Hi my name is Anne. I've been diagnosed with lupus in 2001 when i was 11 years now. I am now 20 and in my second year of college. A year after my diagnosis, i had a huge flare-up which resulted in me being hospitalized for a month and a half. It attacked my lungs and kidneys. Some other issues that came along with lupus for me were high blood pressure and seizures. I had to do dialysis and went through chemotherapy. After being released from the hospital, i was home-schooled that year because i was too weak and tired to go to class. Plus with the dialysis, it was highly inconvenient. My family and i really thought that my kidneys were helpless and we even started talking about having one of my family members give me a kidney. However, after 6 months of dialysis, my kidneys took a turn for the better! I wast taken off dialysis.

After the year of that flare-up, everything went uphill. I can honestly say that now i live my life everday pain-free. I've never felt healthier! I feel as if i've never been sick. All those issues i had that year slowly either got under control or they slowly got defeated by the right medications. I continue to get checkups from my specialists every 6mo- to a year. If anything, i feel a lot better a year after the flare-up than before the flare-up. Before the flare-up i had joint aches everyday, always tired, random fevers, shaky hands, loss of hair, ect. I currently take one 75mg of plaquenil once a day and one 5 mg of enalapril for my high blood pressure along with vitamins and fish oil. Oh and restasis for my eyes. My eyes are a little dry because of lupus, but it's a small issue that doesn't bother me much.

I'm glad i've found this site. I've always been interested in knowing what other people went through. I've very happy to have found this site and to see that people are active in responding and discussing. :)

Hello Anne... :D

Welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to join us.

Sounds like you had a rough start with Lupus, and at such a young age. It's good news to hear about your kidneys responding well. I'm glad things are under control for you at this point, and that you have good health now. You sound like a very strong person with a supportive, loving family.

What are you studying in College? Do you have a career in mind?

I hope you'll stick around and chat with everyone. Make youself at home and be sure to share your words of inspiration with others.

Fondly,

Lori :P

Hello and Welcome to our family

I am so happy to hear that you are now living relatively pain free (especially after what you've gone through). I hope that you remain that way forever. It appears that your medication is working for you and I am happy about that. Remember to continue to take all of the precautions so that you do not put yourself at risk for a flare-up: Stay out of the sun and, if you must be in the sun, wear sunscreen (minimum SPF 35) and lightweight clothing that covers your skin, always wear sunglasses when outdoors. Do not over exert yourself, but at the same time, exercise routinely (no hard aerobics or jarring exercises). Eat a healthy diet and stay away from over use of alcohol. Do not smoke. Take all of your medications as prescribed and keep all of your doctor's appointments. In short..continue to take very good care of yourself so that you can help your meds to keep you in this remission.

We are so glad that you are here :P

Peace and Blessings
