View Full Version : Saw my family doctor today

The rhuemy never responded to my doctor's telephone call or her fax. So I asked her to another specialist. She agreed whole heartedly.
She told me to keep my May appointment with the current rhuemy as it might take awhile to get me into see another rhuemy.
She is also sending me to a dermatologist and checking into the ultra sound appointment that I haven't heard back from.
I finally got my dentist bill paid off, so I can rebook to go and see a nutricianist :)
I know I've really gotten any aswers yet but I do feel better anyway just knowing that I'm being moved to someone else.
More later...my lunch break is over.
edited to correct. It was my family doctor that the rhuemy didn't bother responding to, which to me is even worse than not responding to my question.
It's a brain fog day for me. Anyway, thats not very professional for your rheumotologist to ignore you doctor's fax and phone. I hope you get it all worked out.

i had my worst case of bed side manners last month. the last two times i was brought into the ER
thank god tho that we now have universal health care. the compassion might still not exist in most places tho.
one weekend i was taken to the ER because of a major flare. everything was wrong. i had breathing issues. spent the previous week with vomiting and diarrhea. and of course the fibromyalgia. i only had enough money to pay for the doc visit. but not the tests and treatment i know i needed. but i was hopeful that they would at least do something to ease it all.
when i finally got to see the doc, he explained the need for blood tests, xrays, and his suggestion for treatments. i told him i wasnt able to afford anything more. he just wrote me a prescription for some painkillers, and discharged me. i was devastated because i couldn't even afford those he prescribed.
however, less than a week later, i ended up there again. since my situation wasnt resolved. i was in an incredibly severe crisis, hyperventilating, painfull breathing. it was crazy. i think i scared the nurses and attendants. but when the same doctor came to see me, his first question to me, and im serious, was "can you afford any treatment today?"
i never bothered to response, i was too busy trying to calm down with the nurses attaching all kinds of equipment to me. he didnt do anything until a friend of mine made payments. he's awful. eventually i was on the IV, and got a series of tests done. he never figured out the cause of breathing probs, and chest pains tho

That's awful! How horrific. After all that, non of the tests he ran told him anything?
What exactly was happening with your breathing?

i really dont understand the breathing thing myself. the doc that day basically said what i was experiencing was just from the lupus. but my xrays didnt explain the cause of my breathing probs.
its almost like a contracting pain in my chest. for a few seconds or so, and i cant inhale or exhale. but its also quite painful. if im up an about for an extended tie i get them. if im really cold, if im coughing alot. there have been nights im so afraid to fall asleep because im convinced, my breathing will stop and i wont wake. its also kinda like a clogged feeling, like theres some kind of blockage, or tightening.
it i absolutely scary, since ive not been able to discover the cause. ive had swellings in my chest area quite often, and its sensitive to the touch, but apparently that shouldnt cause the probs with breathing. i have to keep real steady until i catch my breath properly, or else the pain is worsened.

The good thing is that by being moved you are possibly closer to getting some sort of diagnosis. Hopefully this new doc will work with all of your doctors and you can get the care that you need.
I have no patience for the emergency room docs. We really got the run around when we brought my daughter in. One of them didn't even run tests and told us basically there was nothing wrong. A week later she had a cat scan and a tumor was found in her chest. If I could sue these clowns I would. One of them has been placed on probation. at least.
Might I suggest that you request your tests. We were told at one time that her blood was fine and when we requested the blood tests they were far from fine. Sometimes these docs come in with a preconceived diagnosis and they will do everything they can to make it true.

I am glad you are getting a new rhuemy and your g.p. is approving it. Good for you. Keep us updated. You are going to have to fight to get the tests, meds and diagnosis. Save up your energy. Whew!!

rachie, that sounds somewhat familiar with what I went thru a month and a half ago and ended up, after three days of testing, being told I had peularisy & neumonia, however if the x-rays you have had do not support this I am not sure this info will do you much good.
best of luck; Jim.
