Hi all I'm new here and just wanted to say hi. I have been referred to a rheumotologist to see whether I have SLE. My doctor suspects that I do as I have had a few years of bad health with various symptoms which she thinks are in line with SLE and I have a positive ANA - and she mentioned other abnormalities she picked up in the blood test, but this went in one ear out out the other.

I am from New Zealand and over here it takes ages to see specialists through the public health system. It has taken me two weeks to get in and I have another 3 weeks till I see him. So it is a long wait and waiting is not easy with something like this. :(

I am getting very impatient as I want to know what is going on with me and hope that the rheumotologist can shed some light. I have stumped doctors too many times (I am sure some of you are familiar with the blank doctor stare :?: ).

Hi Sprant
I guess that inadequate healthcare is a global pandemic. It seems that no country's health care fits the needs of the people.
Anyway, I am glad that you found us and I wanted to welcome you to our family. Yes, we are all familiar with the "Blank Doctor's Stare" and the eventual murmur of "Well, it must be in your head or you are just a hypochondriac because no illness can cause all of these symptoms!"
However, even in your public health system, you seem to have come across a doctor who knows a bit about Lupus and who is willing to believe that your symptoms are real. In that respect, you are quite fortunate!
You are doing the right thing by trying to learn as much as you can about Lupus. In this way, you will be able to make informed decisions, with your doctor, about your care and on how to manage your disease!
You are not alone and we are here to help you in any way that we can!

Peace and Blessings

Thanks for your warm welcome and reply. I am pleased I have found this forum as it is hard to get support when you are in the limbo phase of waiting to get a diagnosis. Yes Saysuzie I am very grateful that my doctor has been very proactive and listens to what I am saying. I changed to her recently because I wasn't happy with the last doctor. It has made all the difference.

Thanks again :D
Take care
Sprant

You are quite welcome
I know what you mean about how astounding the difference can be, both physically and emotionally, when you have a good doctor. Take care of yourself and remember, we are always here for you!

Peace and Blessings
