Hi! My doctor thinks i have lupus and im awaiting blood results I was born with juevnille arthritis so im used to the stiffness!

Im getting abdominal and back pians. Ive has about 6 urinary style infections in the last 6 months and am constantly very tired, i pick up every bug going lol!

The last week ive been itching everywhere including my scalp its really irritating and before last year i never had a migrane but ive been getting them nearly very day now!

Does anyone else have this typpe of symptoms?

Also this may sound stupid but over the last couple of years my concentration has gown dramatically downhill. I went to an educational pschologist who said i haad ADD (attentional deficit disorder) and dyslexi. The odd thing is beofre I had any lupus like symptoms I never really had a problem concentrating or with reading and never had any problems in school or uni! I was wondering if it was perhaps linked to lupus? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks :D

Caroline, others on this forum will speak more directly about your symptoms, but it certainly sounds like your physician has a reason to run tests. There are lots of diseases that look like lupus, so it's a tough disease to diagnose. Marycain and Saysusie will probably weigh in here with some good information for you. In the meantime, I'll keep you in my prayers, Caroline. Know that you are not alone. We're here for you.

Lupus and Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis are both auto-immune diseases, meaning that they cause the body's own immune system to go haywire and start attacking itself. Your immune system is your body's defense mechanism against diseases, viruses and bacteria, so when it stops working right, your body doesn't have its normal protection. Meaning you may get sick a lot more easily, from germs that wouldn't have bothered you before, because your immune system would kill them off if it was working the right way. It's like it's so busy attacking your healthy tissues that it doesn't pay attention to the germs. So a lot of people notice recurring sinus infections or UTIs, or a lot more colds, before other lupus symptoms develop. Some doctors take it seriously and others shrug it off by telling patients to get more rest or eat healthier. But it can definitely be caused by lupus, or some other auto-immune disease. The problem is that a lot of symptoms common in lupus can also be caused by other auto-immune diseases or other medicsl problems, so lupus can sometimes be hard to diagnose. Lupus can affect every part of the body, and everyone's symptoms will be different, but all of the things you're describimg could be linked to lupus. So, hopefully, your doctor will know more once he gets your test results, and will be able to start treating you.

Do you live in the UK or Canada? Sounds like you are dealing with a National Health Service? Is there no way your treating doctor can refer you directly to a specialist.
