View Full Version : Any good experiences with Cymbalta???

I feel like I am running out of options...I was on a fentanyl patch for 2 plus years and my rheumy wanted me off so we switched to Vicodin which might as well be tic tacs for me as they do nothing.
I am so very tired of being in constant pain and have a headache every day all day long. My rheumy prescribed Cymbalta and I took my first 30mg dose with dinner tonight.
For those that have had success with this drug, I would love to hear your stories. Any advice??? time of day? with food? etc...
Thanks so much all!
I have never taken it. Sorry. Hope someone comes along that has

Just wanted to update...Have only taken the Cymbalta for 4 days and I will NOT be taking it anymore.
The side effects far outweigh any benefits. I have been weak, dizzy, nauseous, and exhausted. There is a disgusting taste in my mouth and I have barely eaten for 4 days....not what I had hoped for :(
I guess we will keep looking for the magic combo!

one thing to remember ......
different brands of medications contain different ingredients,
or different combinations of ingredients ......
so try different brands,
i had to try about 5 different depression medications, until i found one i was happy with,
and after about 4 years, i have just needed to change again
this is normal,
do not stop getting the help you need.

DITTO everything that Steve said with an emphasis. Try a different dosage, a different brand, taking it at a different time of day, etc. It is sometimes quite dangerous for us to stop taking our meds entirely. Please contact your doctor and explain these side effects to him so that adjustments can be made to ensure that you do not go without medication that works on the symptoms that this one is designed to help.
Peace and Blessings

I had the same yucky reaction to cymbalta couple years ago and tried again this winter. Believe it has helped some on mood and pain and has no yucky feeling. Took a single dose in morning, and in a week I added the second dose which I've continued to do.

I thought I'd chime in even though this is an old thread for anyone new who comes across this.
I started generic cymbalta 2 weeks ago (for pain). The pharmacy did not have all my script, so they half filled it with brand name cymbalta for no cost.
The generic made me SO sick. I was having every horrid side effect. Nausea, dizziness, needing naps during the day, felt high, etc. It wasnt a good experience at all. The brand name pills didnt make me feel as bad as the generic. After 2 weeks, it was like night and day, neither pill bothers me at all. So if you can stick out the bad symptoms (if you get them) it might be worth it.
So far I havent noticed ANY help with pain though.
