View Full Version : Trying complicated maths here. Started on iron pills.

So I'm on vacation in lovely Southport, England and my rheumatologist calls. My second set of blood tests have come back showing anemia. I was slightly aware of this because the last time I had donated blood before I started MTX, I barely hit the minimum requirements.

So they want me to take Slo-Fe but they don't have this in England. I just picked up some iron pills and so far they have been helping. No headaches and no fuzzy brain feeling either!

Anyone know the iron dosage on Slo-Fe?

I couldn't find the manufacturer's site, but did find
it looks like a slow-release form of iron that is "gentler on your digestive system"... (their words)

They say it's 45mg, but I woudn't know how that'd "translate" to a "regular" iron cap...

I might have to experiment with that myself. My doc currently has me on iron caps, and they're hard to get down, and will give me indigestion in certain situations. I'll have to ask her about the Slow Fe or other similar slow-release versions. The one "problem" I see is that they're about twice as expensive as "regular" caps...
