View Full Version : My turn with pleurisy

So I have been having chest pain for about 2 weeks. Called the Rheum and got me in ASAP. He said it sounds like pleurisy so I probably need some steroids for it. I had 2 rounds of prednisone in Nov and Jan. Does anyone know if the steroids will be as effective taking them so close together? I thought I was told at One point that prednisone is less effective if courses of doses are taken One right after the other. Is that true?

P.S. this is pretty painful

I have never heard that about Prednisone. If that were true, then how do they explain people who benefit from taking Prednisone daily, for months and years?
I would like to know: who said this and what was the basis for their assertion?
You could discuss this with your doctor in order to determine what is the best course for you. I wish you the best.

Peace and Blessings

Thank you very much for the reply. I think this was an ER dr who said this to me before being diagnosed with lupus, so it may not be correct. I will be calling my rheumy tomorrow since the pain is worsening and in my back quite badly...leaves me short of breath as well. Thanks again for the advice. I was not aware that people can be on steroids for long periods of time until recently. X

I feel for you. I had pleurisy once and you're right--ouch!

Feel better soon!
