After five days of pain in my left leg i went into the er to figure out what was going on. Well after four hours and a rather helpful doctor i was told i have a blood clot. At the age of 21 i have a clot. To be honest im pretty shaken up by it. It just always seems to be something else. Im trying to stay strong but when its something like this if i wouldnt of caught it than i could be dead that scares me how do you deal with that and still stay positive ugh so now we move on from this long night head held high even when feeling fragile.

Hi Codi, I was checking posts on my phone but had to jump on the computer to reply to this one..
I'm 25 but at 21 I had blood clots in my leg, just in superficial veins but enough to scare the bejeezus out of me. I had warfarin injections and as they had no beds I was told I could sit in the visiting area all night or go home...so I went home with strict instructions to call an ambulance if I had any chest pain or severe headache. All unlikely events, but even being told these as precautions was petrifying.
So I understand how you feel, bless you. Have you had any treatment? Are they following this up, trying to investigate why it happened? Thanks to the UK health system I was told after the second time that if it happened again they'd look into it...thankfully it hasn't happened since.
I'm sure you've discussed any birth control you're taking as that can cause clots in some people. Also smoking increases the risk etc.
Its all a bit much to deal with isn't it? But you know the warning signs now and can be vigilent. If you have any worries or issues seek medical advice. It is very important that you don't ignore it. And please push to find the cause...I wish I had.

Codi, I can relate too, as I had a blood clot in my left leg at 19. I am now 61 and have never had another one. My leg puffed up like a balloon in a matter of a few hours and I was hospitalized for a week. I was given warfarin shots in the hospital also. I am sure mine was from birth control pills, as in the old days, the doses of hormones were very high as compared to the doses in the birth control pills now. I was really scared too when this happened to me. I am sorry that this happened to you. It's a good thing you took action after having the leg pain for more than a few days. Just try to take it one day at a time and you will get through this. I know it's easy to say, but try not to worry too much.

Any update Codi?
I also forgot to mention that you should be sure to let all of your doctors and specialists know about the blood clot issue. Mention it to the pharmacist when you get any meds, even ones you've taken before.
Hope you're feeling better xx
