Well, since my son got out of the hospital for the second time, we have since seen an Ophthalmologist about his cataracts. He'll be having surgery in May to have them removed. Little scary for a 14 yr. old not to mention for Mom! I guess for me because since he was first dx, it has been literally, one step forward, two steps back. Anything that could go wrong, did. He has been such a trooper through all of this! Has anyone else has this happen with the cataracts? He didn't have them in Dec, and he does now. The dr. is saying that he'll have bi-focals now. (He does wear glasses)

i am seeing my specialist in july for cataract surgery.
the way she described it to me.....
lupus does not cause cataracts.
but lupus does increase the severity and onset of them.
i will need both eyes done.
it is interesting the way they now treat cataracts. replacing part of the eye with synthetics.
cataracts will never return.
i also believe he is not the youngest person to have this surgery.
i wish you both peace and a trouble free operation.
the reason for the glasses...
the part of the eye that gets the cataract, is the part that adjust in and out for our focus.
it is a group of muscles.
and muscles are effected by lupus.
please send me a personal message if you want to discuss this.
